Though ABC didn’t have much luck with their Eastwick drama, the network is trying another kind of supernatural series, The Gates, for the summer months. Will this one make it to season two?
The Gates revolves around a big city cop who moves his family to a quiet gated community where many of the residents aren’t exactly what they appear to be. The ensemble cast includes Rhona Mitra, Colton Haynes, Frank Grillo, Janina Gavankar, Chandra West, Luke Mably, James Preston, Marisol Nichols, Skyler Samuels, Travis Caldwell, Victoria Platt, and Justin Miles.
The series debuted on Sunday, June 20th, to an unimpressive 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just 4.78 million viewers. Considering all of the network’s promotion, this was a disappointing start. The premiere ranked first in the demo and second in total viewers for the timeslot.

In week two, viewership for The Gates dropped by about 30%. The demo fell to a 1.1 rating and total viewership came down to only 3.24 million. That put the show in second place in the demo and in third place for viewers.
Though ABC has lower expectations for this summer show, the ratings do not bode well for the show’s future on the network. Unless more people start watching, it’s hard to imagine that we’ll be seeing season two.
For now, let’s hope they show all 13 episodes of season one. The Gates is expected to run until September 19th but, with ratings like these, it’s not hard to imagine the network replacing them with something else.

I love this show. I am still sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens next. Please give it another try! The story has evolved Im sure you will have more viewers.
It really is a shame that TV shows aren’t given the chance to breath and grow anymore. I have just watched season 1 and really enjoyed it. I was all excited about next season, only to learn that it had been cancelled. It’s such a poor way to treat the fans of this show too. We invest our time into these stories and characters, only to have the rug pulled out from under us, without any sort of ending. It shows a complete disregard for their audience. One of the best and only shows I watch. My lineup is smallville, supernatural the vampire diaries and the Gates. What is wrong with ABC?
I watched the Gates online in The Netherlands, and I didn’t know it would stop after 1 season!! I really liked the gates and it’s a shame that it won’t continue!

ABC HAS TO KEEP THIS SHOW. THE GATES IS THE BEST SHOW. IF MORE PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT THIS SHOW IT WOULD BE THE TOP SHOW ON TELEVISION. IVE WATCHED A LOT OF GREAT SHOWS. THIS WAS MY FAVORITE OUT OF ALL OF THEM. I EVEN THINK THIS SHOW IS BETTER THAN LOST. ABC PUT ON SEASON 2. YOU HAVE TO. THIS SHOW IS AWESOME AND I WANT TO KNOW WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN. C’mon ABC! Make the 2nd season… Admittedly, The Gates started off slowly, but as the storyline evolved and momentum picked up it became very gripping and entertaining… It is certain that your following and subsequent ratings will increase and catapault this series to success in a 2nd season…
this is bull sh*t really man i loved the show im curious on whats gunna happen with charlie and his family !!! i need this show to keep airing but i no this is a waste of time because whenevr the fans have to say you wont keep that in mind anyways .. hopefully u will just keep it on .. THIS SUCKS !
I’m shocked to find out that these series are cancelled!! @_@ They’ve only started showing The Gates here, where I live, and I’m totally in love with its characters, its narrative, its setting… It’s really heartbreaking to know that the series won’t continue into the next season, such a shame. T_T

when i saw the ratings i was like “damn”…they need to keep the series they can’t end it like that…i wanna know what life gonna be like for charlie and his family now…also when are they gonna kill off devon she’s a *****…well not kill her off maybe injure her character to the point where she’s in a coma for a while lol then they can bring her back lol=)
