As expected, ABC has cancelled The Gates after one season on the air. The ratings certainly didn’t dictate a second season and a couple weeks ago, series star Frank Grillo said that he’d heard unofficially that the show wouldn’t be back.
Though even actress Lindsay Lohan wanted to see it return, it’s now been confirmed that The Gates has indeed been cancelled. Some of the people connected with the show have tweeted about the series’ passing.
From the show’s Twitter feed comes, “We would like to thank our followers for sticking with us through this great journey.”
Gates creator Richard Hatem wrote simply, “Thanks to everyone who loved it. DVD set to be released…someday?”
Consulting producer and writer Robert Hewitt Wolfe tweeted, “Thank you to #TheGates fans, crew & cast for a great run. It was a blast. Seriously some of the best fans ever.” He later posted, “4 sale, lux devlpmnt/incrprtd town w/ upscale owners, prvt police/fire, exclnt school, occasional mysterious death”
Colton L Haynes wrote, “Was a great/fun experience and thk u all for coming along for the ride!. He followed that up with, “THE GATES cast and crew: thk u all for the good times! Learned alot and had a great summer with u all! Cheers to the future!” and posted this photo with #ripBrettCreski. Wolfe responded, “Sob… Too young!”
James Preston looks forward to the future, tweeting, “No worries gates fans follow us on to our new exciting roles!” Travis Caldwell echoed that sentiment, saying, “its all good more to come from all of us !!!”
Justin Miles wrote, “We gave em a hell of a run, though…” Janina Gavankar feels similarly, saying, “Sad. But we’re incredibly proud of what we made.”
Young McKaley Miller tweeted, “thank you guys for all the support!! seriously, y’all are awesome!! #TheGates is officially over, but it was such a great experience!! TY :)”
Andrea Powell wrote, “Thanks for all the love, fans of #TheGates. We’ll miss you! :-*”
Rachel Dipillo wrote, “We had a fun ride on The Gates. Love everyone I worked with and can’t wait to see what you do next! #RIPLEXIEWADE”
Grillo tweeted, “Thanks to all of you for supporting us. It made the whole thing worth it. Lots more fun stuff coming.” Grillo also said that he’d share what would have happened in the second season. After son Charlie is saved, Nick and his family would have stayed in the Gates community. The Radcliffs decide to take a break from one another. Leigh becomes the head of the police and Nick takes over the Gates board and oversees the community.

I am so sad that The Gates is not returning. I am actually very surprised as I thought it was great writing, great acting, and great all the way around. Some of these TV shows with “creatures” of all kinds, have a terrible way of making it “look real” but the Gates didnt. Very Sad about its cancellation!
Great series. Sucks that ABC gave up too soon. Typical corporate response. I’d love to see Syfy pick it up like they did Merlin when NBC dumped it.

I think this is stupid they could at least try it on a different night or something it was a great show i will miss it best show on abc in years.

i have been waitin on season 2, i just saw the show is cancelled, what is wrong with abc, on a sunday noght time slot in the infancy of a damn decent show, 3 million people isnt enough per episode the first seaason, this is now the last i will be watching abc, to the abc excecs, yourdumb, hope u get fired morons
I loved The Gates I was an instant fan. How could you have gotten me so hooked to such a great show and then just stop right when things were getting good and you were starting to figure out the characters. I hate to see it go since it was the only show on NBC I watched. Good-bye Gates you will be missed.
It doen’t matter what the public wants. Why should we even watch TV anymore?

Yeah ABC sucks! They are all about image and keeping up with the jonses. Every other show they have going is a total knock off of shows from the past or from the other networks. ABC you suck!!!
I think syfy should pick it up cause abc aint got wat it takes for shows like that and syfy is better i think the only show i enjoy on there is no ordinary family but abc will cancel that to they always have an excuse to cancel shows
I agree. Syfy should pick up this show. They can put in on before or after Being Human. Such a shame that abc cancelled it! I really loved this show. ABC needs to do an overhaul on the suites that make decision on programming. They cancel everything.
I would like it if you would put The Gates back on. It seems like everytime I really like and get into a show. ABC takes it off the air. I’m still upset that ABC took Dirty Sexy Money off. They must have a camera aimed at me that says…oh no..she likes that show ..we better take it off the air…Next time I won’t let on that I like any new shows!!!
Now here I was waiting in anticaption for season 2 and you drop a bomb and tell me that they canceled the show now what I’m I going to watch in the summer on sunday nights. The gates held my attention for the whole 60 min. You cancel the gates but keep some of this other mess that you keep showing season after season. At least the gates had blood pumping action thru the whole series. I hope they change their mind and bring it back like the network did for the game.
Typical for ABC to give up on a great show that has such great potential.
It would be nice if Syfy or another cable station picked it up. I think ABC made a big mistake with their decision.
I really enjoyed this show I am surprised it’s been canned. It had a good cast and promsing storylines. Most shows get going in their 2nd season when everyone really gels on the show and they can do more with the stories. When shows like The Kardashians The Hills, Jersey Shores, One Tree Hill and so on, ad so on keep getting renewed you know some programmers are about cheap, mindless television. Shame on the executives that make this cheap drivel and keep pushing them down our throats at the expense of the good shows. BRING BACK THE GATES.
I could not agree more. Lets get a bunch of stupid people in a house and see how they can make idiots out of them selves. Or even better lets get another house wives show because we don’t have enough.
