As expected, ABC has cancelled The Gates after one season on the air. The ratings certainly didn’t dictate a second season and a couple weeks ago, series star Frank Grillo said that he’d heard unofficially that the show wouldn’t be back.
Though even actress Lindsay Lohan wanted to see it return, it’s now been confirmed that The Gates has indeed been cancelled. Some of the people connected with the show have tweeted about the series’ passing.
From the show’s Twitter feed comes, “We would like to thank our followers for sticking with us through this great journey.”
Gates creator Richard Hatem wrote simply, “Thanks to everyone who loved it. DVD set to be released…someday?”
Consulting producer and writer Robert Hewitt Wolfe tweeted, “Thank you to #TheGates fans, crew & cast for a great run. It was a blast. Seriously some of the best fans ever.” He later posted, “4 sale, lux devlpmnt/incrprtd town w/ upscale owners, prvt police/fire, exclnt school, occasional mysterious death”
Colton L Haynes wrote, “Was a great/fun experience and thk u all for coming along for the ride!. He followed that up with, “THE GATES cast and crew: thk u all for the good times! Learned alot and had a great summer with u all! Cheers to the future!” and posted this photo with #ripBrettCreski. Wolfe responded, “Sob… Too young!”
James Preston looks forward to the future, tweeting, “No worries gates fans follow us on to our new exciting roles!” Travis Caldwell echoed that sentiment, saying, “its all good more to come from all of us !!!”
Justin Miles wrote, “We gave em a hell of a run, though…” Janina Gavankar feels similarly, saying, “Sad. But we’re incredibly proud of what we made.”
Young McKaley Miller tweeted, “thank you guys for all the support!! seriously, y’all are awesome!! #TheGates is officially over, but it was such a great experience!! TY :)”
Andrea Powell wrote, “Thanks for all the love, fans of #TheGates. We’ll miss you! :-*”
Rachel Dipillo wrote, “We had a fun ride on The Gates. Love everyone I worked with and can’t wait to see what you do next! #RIPLEXIEWADE”
Grillo tweeted, “Thanks to all of you for supporting us. It made the whole thing worth it. Lots more fun stuff coming.” Grillo also said that he’d share what would have happened in the second season. After son Charlie is saved, Nick and his family would have stayed in the Gates community. The Radcliffs decide to take a break from one another. Leigh becomes the head of the police and Nick takes over the Gates board and oversees the community.

this is very irritating. after 3 weeks of pretty much everyone i know attempting suicide, i find this out. this was one of the first shows my mom and i really connected over, ya know? sitting around, watching TV, chatting about the characters or whatever DS game i was playing at the same time. we debated for weeks what Devon turned Charlie into, you know. now we’ll never know, and continue to debate…… why? how could the ratings be so bad that it got shut down? it was amazing and amazing series and the only good interpretation of Vampires of… Read more »
I am so upset to see it go, I loved that show, could not wait for the new season and now this…..please bring it back!
Very disappointed that The Gates was cancelled. Outstanding cast of characters. Why does ABC always cancel shows after the first season? That is no way to be no#, ABC!!
Have the writers thought about putting the Gates on another network? It would definitely have the following.
And here is the precise reason I don’t watch ABC. At least with Fox you know that shows will stay longer than one season. I gave ABC a shot with this show, was drawn in to the story, characters and originality of it. Now I find out it’s Cancelled?!?! So aggrevating! Guess, I will continue to remain faithful to Fox.
DANG IT!!!!!!!!!!! All these shows I like are getting canceled! I absolutely LOVE(d) THE GATES!!! I TOO was wondering why I havent seen any commercials 4 it & found this- NOT HAPPY WITH ABC!
We loved The Gates. It was a great summer series. Boo ABC. I have always hated vampire shows until this. Great characters. Good story lines. This really sucks!
Yes I’m so sad to see the Gates cancelled. I was looking forward to what was going to happen between the vamps and werewolves. Andi and her saga. Of course all the ladies of the Gates. Another good show down the tubes like “Moonlight” did.
To say I am upset is an understatement!! The Gates had fantastic characters and I the story line was one of the best.
This always happens; Why don’t the networks can some of the ‘cop’ shows that are on the air? We are unindated with those type of shows and when one comes along that is truly unique, it gets the cane! Not fair!
Bring back The Gates!
So sorry to see the Gates not come back. My sister and I were so looking forward to Season 2. Thought it was about time to start seeing advertisements about it so we googled it only to find this. So sad 🙁

Ok what the frick. This is the second show abc has canceled that I really liked man who is doing the rating or what ever they apparently are not asking the viewers at all, the show was original and unique I really liked it alot, but truthfully not surprised as abc cancels alot of good shows after the first season it makes it hard to ever get excited about any of their shows knowing you could get hooked only for them to not follow up.
