TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.

Please give us another season. This is good tv!
I loved the movies and always wanted another fix. The Librarians gives me that fix. I just wish it was more than 10 episodes. It’s family fun and definitely needed in this day and age.
Loved the movies…loved the TV show…more please!!!
My family loves The Librarians!!! It’s so refreshing to watch a show that is clean and smart and funny and safe for the family (OK, the language is not as clean as it could be, but in today’s TV, it’s tons better than other shows!).
How do we get Noah Wylie nominated for a Peoples Choice Award!?!
Keep the Librarians! It’s such a great show!
KEEP IT! My whole family loves it!
This is the only show I like! Please renew. It’s fun, inventive, entertaining. Great characters!

Keep! Please
Please keep this series! I have enjoy all the tv movies and I am in with Flynn Carsen! this show could outlast Dr. Who.. There are so many legends from around the world that they could do like Baba Yaga.. or the Greek myths there were a lot and the norse and more of the Asian culture.. African, Muslim, and Native American….. the only criticism I would give is that there should be more people of colour who were Librarians! maybe like branches in India and Africa… there might be more than one substation… they could open people’s culture and… Read more »
It’s a no-brainer! TNT needs to renew #TheLibrarians. #Kaniacs, John Larroquette fans, Noah Wyle fans, and others around the world have thoroughly enjoyed this fun, family-friendly show. I love John Roger and Dean Devlin’s work. They had a limited amount of time to pull everything together and did a fantastic job. I bought Season 1 on iTunes after watching only 1 episode, and I haven’t regretted it a bit. It’s been fun to follow the live tweeting that’s gone on during some of the episodes. The affection and respect shown between all involved makes me want to support them even… Read more »
