TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

It is refreshing to be able to watch a TV show and have it be something the whole family can watch. It mingles fantasy and history in such a way that its entertaining and informative too. Especially for those who do not like history. Makes you want to research the actual historical background of the item or event mentioned in the episode.
Keep The Librarians. I really enjoy the show. It is a great escape with a little pseudo history thrown in for fun. Very nice.

My wife and I are both well outside your apparent demo of 18 to 25 y.o’s. We watch the show regularly. We’re big fans. Please, if the TNT gods are listening, renew The Librarians so I don’t ever have to watch another episode of Rizzoli and Isles.

Please keep The Librarians on the air! The world needs more magic and this show is one way to provide more of it. There’s an abundance of mythology and logic that isn’t seen in any other tv series at this date.
Please keep the Librarians. I love the show and so does my niece. The characters are starting to develop and we love the story lines. It would be a shame to lose such a wonderful show.
Definietly keep it! The creative writing is original and the intertwining of all the academic subjects is refreshing for all ages! Great characters!!

One of the best shows out right now! We don’t currently even have cable and we were so determined to watch this show that we purchased it through Xbox Video! Now it’s torture to wait for it download! We can hardly wait for each episode!!

There are so few quality family shows outs there and this opens up a world of imagination
Love this show! Loved the movies too. The cast is really dynamic and well chosen. Dean Devlin is a creative mind. Of course I loved Leverage too and you canceled that one. Hope this one continues!
Please keep the Librarians. I love the show and its characters. Sometimes I think you pull the plugs on shows way to early. I miss Leverage, I will miss Perception. But I will be extremely disappointed if you cancel the Librarians. I love that show.
