TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

There is so much crap on television why would you even consider getting rid of The Librarian’s? Keep the show, please! How about less staged “reality” television we’ve been subjected to. I’m way over that!

We have enjoyed The Librarians this season! We look forward to it each week-that hasn’t happened in a long time! There are a couple of problems however. The season was too short and if it is renewed-and it better be!-the next season doesn’t start soon enough! Show how smart we know you are and renew The Librarians!

i don’t have cable and catch the librarians on iTunes. I bought the whole season because I was beyond tickled when I heard that Dean Devlin was bringing this to tv! I loved the movies and think the cast was a perfect pairing. I really hope TNT picks this show up for a second season. It is intelligently written and much better than Wharehouse 13. Our family of 6 loves this series. We loved the Librarian movies and this series gives us our “Librarian” fix and the adventures that we enjoyed. Please renew it for many more seasons. The characters / actors are great and the story lines are very enjoyable. Thanks.

Oh My! YES!!! Please Keep IT. Rating would be higher but it’s on CABLE and so I have to wait to either buy it on Amazon (or if it were on HULU Plus) that would make it a lot more watchable by lots of people I know. BUT, Dean Devlin I am Rooting for you to Keep Librarians! You are a genius!
Really love the show, love the ever changing story lines. Good show for all ages!! Keep this show!! The family is excited for Sunday nights, just to watch The Librarians. Seriously, who looks forward to Sunday nights!!! That says a lot!! 🙂
