TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.

I cannot believe the canceled Franklin and Bash. I was a paralegal and it was the best show ever. I can’t believe they would cancel such shows to put on trash. Such as drugs, sex, guns, etc. Why can’t we just have clean fun films….no the production companies don’t think we should. How would they feel if their kids were watching all that trash?
Definitely keep! Such a fun and creative show
Keep it! I love it. It is the only show I have not missed an episode of in years.
Loved the first season of Librarians and can’t wait to see what is store for the second season!! It is definitely a keeper!!
Great show, great case with a story line that is infinite . I truly hope it is renewed.
Love this show! Please continue.
Love love love this show! Please bring it back for a S2! I love the dynamic between them all and how exciting it is! I love how their called The Librarians and how unique each character is and how diverse their backgrounds are!
My whole family enjoys the show. My folks, my 13 year old son and my husband (the cobat vet who loves all things action). It is refreshing, funny, creative and provides an escape from reality.
Everyone is just getting into their part! Keep it
Definitely keep!
As a art historian and historian, I find this show a delight to watch. Not only are the storylines are fanciful, engaging to the imagination, and fun to watch, but the cast is fantastic and just now really starting to own their characters. Additionally, the dialogue between the characters has gotten better and better each week. Cannot wait for the second season, so please do not disappoint.
Love it….
The Librarians is a great show with an entertaining cast that work well together. With the loss of Perception and Franklin & Bash there are fewer and fewer shows in prime-time that you can watch. So many networks seem to be depending more and more on reality shows that glorify idiotic behavior. I would rather watch a good show with a great story-line that leaves me anticipating the next episode.
Oh my gosh, PLEASE keep this show!!! My family and I love watching it together, the cast and crew are amazing, and Christian Kane is my favorite actor! It is a great show that deserves to have much longevity.
Librarians is GOOD, QUALITY TV without the Smut & Crap that they show on the major networks. ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX etc has nothing on the creative genius that Librarians gives. There are very few “main network” shows that I have ever liked for an extended period of time because they can’t keep my interest. Dean Devlin, Librarians is a show with LOADS of potential
