TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

Keep it! I love it. It is just “hokey” enough to be totally enjoyable! I have watched every episode. And with learning that J. Frakes is directing it, I am doubly inclined to say “keep it”!!

Keep it please. The stories are entertaining, the characters likeable, and the actors do a good job. Better than a lot of the junk on TV that seems to keep coming back.

Please keep the Librarians alive! We need fantasy in the world that weaves everything together as well as this show does. The cast is superbly matched and they play well off each other. And don’t forget, in this era of trying to get more students into the STEM disciplines, this series emphasizes all of it and more making it palatable for kids who wouldn’t ordinarily look in that direction.
Keep The Librarians. Great Show.. Best Fantasy show on TV. Cast is awesome and story line is fun and engaging. So looking forward to Season 2.
This series is right up my interest. Fun, fantasy, adventure, problem solving the whole nine yards. I very much like John Larroquette (from my hometown NO), Christian Kane (similar character to Leverage) I definitely vote KEEP.

Keep it going! The Librarian is a real rival for Dr Who in cult following vein. It could easily ho in for decades! LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!
