TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.
I NEEED MOOOORE
For God sake renew this show. Very fascinating always waiting for the next episode. Very little else worth watching these days.
We have been enjoying The Librarians. The plots are interesting as the TV movies were. Getting the Library and all its items will make for seasons of stories. Its family fare mostly and that is hard to find on TV. We hope to see the renewal notice soon.
I love this show! PLEASE renew it for a second season!!!
I love the show! PLEASE renew it for a second season!
Keep it! Love this show.
I think it should be renewed. It is a great show has something for the whole family. We all need a little more fantasy in our lives now a days with all that is going on. It has a great cast and directors. It’s funny and can be serious I look forward to Sundays again. Plus it doesn’t hurt that you have Christian Kane to look at either. He is awesome and then there is Noah Wyle and he is a great actor. Please renew it. A wonderful show!!
I like the show it should stay on.
Don’t cancel it… this a show my whole family gather to watch
Please don’t cancel!
My whole family loves this show!! Please don’t cancel!! Love Christian Kane. We love the story lines with endless possibilities. There aren’t many shows out there that the whole family can watch together so please don’t cancel.
Do not cancel it!
Keep it!!!! I love this show!
I love this show so much and it most definitely should not be cancelled! I loved the original movies and this expansion on that universe has been amazing to watch! The cast and writers are all fantastic and I can’t wait for season 2 to see what happens next! When Leverage got cancelled it left a huge hole and this fills that so well!
Librarians! Camp! Fun!
IT MUST STAY!
