TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.
Cutest new show I have seen. Huge football fan so recorded it and watched later in the week. Sunday night is a hard sell during football so that should be accounted into the ratings. Enjoyed all the characters and all of the episodes. My family is looking forward to having it come back for a second season.
Love this show. Please renew it.
Truly hope you keep The Librarian. It is very entertaining and at times educational.
Sorry to see you have cancelled Perception. It was also entertaining and funny. Seems like when shows show promise but might be a bit slow to catch on the powers that be drop the ax. It doesn’t pay to have cable TV any more.
I love this show!!!! I may not have cable but I still watch this show online as soon as the next episode is available!!!!!!!!

excellent stories. Great for families. An absolute
Gem!
Please renew this show. It’s the best thing on TV. And the people who watch this intelligent show are the ones who make the purchasing decisions, so the advertisers should want this show to stay on.
Please renew I lost leverage I don’t want to lose this one.
Please keep it. Entertaining!
Do NOT cancel this show!!
Please keep this show! I’ve loved this franchise since the movies came out and the TV series just continued them and surpassed them in ways I couldn’t imagine. Definitely a keeper!
I won’t miss it if it goes. I’m looking forward to John Larroquette on HBO’s The Brink which looks like a better show.
My wife and I like the show and our kids love it! I will say that we really like Noah and his character the best, so he must stay a part of the show and hopefully will be on every episode.
