As expected, there won’t be a second season for Lifetime’s future drama, The Lottery. The cable channel has cancelled the TV series after one season of 10 episodes.
The Lottery takes place in the year 2025 when our planet is in the midst of a fertility crisis. Women can no longer bear children and the human race faces extinction. After years of research researchers have been able to fertilize 100 eggs and a lottery is held to determine who can carry them to term. The cast of this thriller includes Marley Shelton, Martin Donovan, Yul Vasquez, Athena Karkanis, Michael Graziadei, David Alpay, and Shelley Conn.
The show premiered in July to 1.08 million viewers but lost more than 30% of its viewers in week two and the numbers kept sliding downward as the season progressed. The finale, which aired on September 28th, drew just 425,000. The season averaged 670,000 viewers, a far cry from Devious Maids’ 1.81 million average.
What do you think? Did you like The Lottery TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season?
I feel that the series was just getting good there was great parts in the first season that set up for a more suspenseful second season I feel they should not have cancelled the show so soon
If it’s not a zombie apocalyptic show or reality tv no one watches it which is atupid because it was really good
I should have known that it would not last, Every time I like a series, the general population doesn’t, and it ends up canceled. I still have a bad taste from The 44oo cancelation. Maybe they are doing ratings with the wrong age demographics! I am in my sixties and enjoyed this story a lot, as well as Resurrection, The Intruders and The Divide. TV is loaded with stupid reality tv for the dim witted and anything with a story line that forces people to think, is ignored. Lifetime has strayed from their original movie line and programming and today’s… Read more »
Was an awesome show. Very disappointed. 🙁
I agree that the story line needs to be finished. I watched this show every week it was on and was looking forward to second season. Something needs to be done. This is the second show I’ve gotten into and end up being cancelled and leave you hanging!
I really enjoyed the show and would catch up on episodes On Demand if I didn’t catch it at the time it was on. With the right network and enthusiastic and thoughtful writers, I know the series could’ve been a huge hit, if not on Lifetime, then maybe on SyFy. I don’t think 1 season is enough time to really evaluate a series, but maybe it was too much for the simple minds of the average Lifetime viewer who seem to prefer trash or lifetime (sappy drama) movies. Now don’t get me wrong, that’s all well and good here and… Read more »
I loved this show. Unique premise and a very interesting storyline with definite promise. By far one of the best shows I’ve seen since Breaking Bad. It upsets me that I invest my time into a new tv show and it gets cancelled. This show was intelligent, intriguing and not boring. I have watched Under the Dome which I find very boring and unnecessarily drags on and on. The Lottery was by far a superior show. Reminds me of the show 666 Park Avenue, anyone watch that here? Yes it was weird, dark and disturbing but I enjoyed it, was… Read more »
I really enjoyed this show and was fascinated with the morality issues and character studies. However, I too am frustrated the story wasn’t finished. There’s a whole new situation now the girls are pregnant and the government has basically kidnapped them, as well as the extra fertilized egg Dr. Alison made off with. What happens next?? I think what’s at fault here is the assumption that every single idea that pops into a writer’s brain must become a series. Why not bring back the mini-series, so popular in the past, and tell the ENTIRE story in one shot? Frankly, I… Read more »
I agree… Instead of leaving the show on a cliffhanger with no closure for the viewer, bring it back for a 2nd “mini-series” season so all those loose ends can be wrapped up. This idea would work for a concept like the Lottery.
I really got hooked and was looking forward to watching this new (and different then all others) show for several more seasons. Very sad and irritating that they just drop it. Wish they’d re – look at it and play it again at maybe a different time and day and see if ratings go up….then sign up for another season.
does anyone know where we could open a poll to see how many people were looking forward to season 2
Of course they cancelled it…. How typical. Let’s get loads of viewers interested in a great and different type of story then lets cancel it. No, of course let’s NOT wrap up the story & tell them what’ll happen next to the new mothers & babies!!!
I’m getting really tired of getting “hooked” on a program only to have it dropped by the networks. And THAT dear viewers is why I DO watch reality shows…. they FINISH THEM!!!!
The shows that are different always get a bad wrap. Sorry to see it go.
I was intrigued by the show although at times I had a hard time following the plot. I, however, enjoyed the show and watch all 1o episodes with interest and look forward to see how each character developed … Too many unanswered questions. That’s the reason, cancellation, I really don’t put much value into always watching a story.. you get hooked and they drop it .. at least have one two-hour show to finish it off instead of just dropping it.
Not happy about this news! It’s so maddening that we viewers are left with unresolved storylines. It just makes me not to want to invest my time in watching a new series.
I was so sad to here The Lottery Series will not be showing anymore!!! Please bring it back how about bringing it to NetFlex then??? Please
