There was speculation that The Middle might be coming to an end because contracts were up and Charlie McDermott signed on for a CBS pilot. Well, with or without son Axl, The Middle is coming back for a seventh season on ABC.
Taking place in Orson, Indiana, The Middle revolves around the Heck family. It’s headed by Mike (Neil Flynn), who manages a local quarry, and Frankie (Patricia Heaton), a dental assistant. Together, they do their best to make ends meet, have a relationship, and raise their three very different kids (McDermott, Eden Sher, and Atticus Shaffer).
Season-to-season, The Middle performed about the same in season six, averaging a 2.01 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.64 million viewers. It remains a solid performer for ABC.
McDermott has made a comedy pilot for CBS called Super Clyde. If it doesn’t become a series, it’s expected that he will return to The Middle full-time. If the project does move forward, we’ll be seeing far less of the eldest Heck son on ABC.
What do you think? Do you like The Middle? How long should it run? Would you miss McDermott if he wasn’t on the show?
I have truly enjoyed this show. It’s so true a good family show. I think the show will go on with or without Alx. I am sure there will be other characters that will shine out more than they have in the past episodes.
I just love this show just remains of the real north american family they do not have money but have a good family and they make enough money so the Goverment t would no be able to help them because they are hard working people
yes I would love to see the Middle renewed again and again….great chemistry with all characters…..I think the show will go on without Axl…..he is not the strongest of the group…
Love the Middle. All the kids are needed because each brings something different to the comedy. The Emmy’s should have a separate category for the kids in comedy and drama shows. There would be no show without the kids.
I enjoy the middle sue is a girl of great character I often tell my granddaughter about how she takes life the way it comes to her and looks at the bright side when she is knock down she picks her self up and starts all over. she is an easy going person and is very inmaterial I love her.
I think ABC was absolutely remiss in not signing the middle as soon as they possibly could. It’s one of the best shows on tv. It’s funny and though I know they dramatize a lot of the incidents ( hey it IS tv !) it’s a very good portrayal of a lower middle class family. Oh and did I mention it’s hilarious ??!! 🙂 I think Axl will be greatly missed. . As mentioned, all the Heck children are very different. To lose any one of them would change the dynamic of the show I do wish him well in starring… Read more »

Middle is a wonderful program with each performer playing an inimical part.
Writers; Please don’t add a new baby or a chimp and take the fun from this dysfunctional, but loving family.
OMG. The Middle is my favorite tv comedy, please do not cancel this show, it’s ok if Axl is only on occasionally.
My family and I enjoy The Middle. It is funny and
clean! Keep it on please, kids or no kids.
I love this show. The oldest son will not be missed, he is an idiot, not even funny
I love this show and look forward to seeing it every week night!
I have always liked the Middle since it started. I like the delightful, and exaggerated disfunction of the family. I like that there is no dubbed audience laughter, which I find very annoying on other TV comedies. I especially like it when Axl occasionally comes through for the family members and does the “right thing”. I like the restraint of Dad Mike. A good example of appropriate tough love. I still marvel at the character adjustment Frankie (Patricia) made from “Everyone Loves Raymond”. She must be a truly talented actress. I love Sue, who tries so hard to succeed and… Read more »
I love this show and hope so badly it continues. And hope that Axl returns along with Brick!! The season finale made me feel like Brick may be leaving the show and he is the most endearing and loved characters on the show. Brick please return.
Best Show Ever! Omg Axle please come back!
