TV show description:
This sitcom follows a woman who, despite having a successful career, is unlucky in love. She feels that she needs to get her personal life back on track — before her friends and colleagues are forced to stage an intervention.
A skilled OB/GYN, Mindy Lahiri (Mindy Kaling) is funny, impatient and politically incorrect. She can also quote numerous romantic comedies — the good and the bad ones — as long as the girl always gets the guy. Mindy wants to improve herself and is determined to be more punctual, spend less money, lose weight and read more books. She wants to do whatever it takes to become a well-rounded perfect woman — who will then meet and date the perfect guy.
Mindy shares a practice with a few other doctors but unfortunately, none of them make her life any easier.
Danny Castellano (Chris Messina) is a hothead and guys’ guy who has a habit of stealing Mindy’s patients. He criticizes Mindy for everything, including her struggling love life and her lack of professionalism. It’s obvious however, to everyone but Mindy, that he secretly admires her work.
On the other hand, Jeremy Reed (Ed Weeks) is the walking definition of total bad news. In addition to sharing a practice with Mindy, he sometimes shares her bed as well. She tries to resist but can’t help but give in.
Morgan Tookers (Ike Barinholtz) is a reformed ex-con and the hospital’s resident cheerleader. He’s also a male nurse who wishes that he and his colleagues spent more time together outside of work
Conversely, Doctor Shulman (Stephen Tobolowsky) is happiest when left alone by his younger staff members. He’s the head of the practice and is always willing to offer advice, especially when it means his co-workers will head for the door.
The receptionists of the practice are also very unique. Young, earnest and easily excitable, Betsy Putch (Zoe Jarman) thinks the world of Mindy and is always trying to impress her. On the other side of the coin is Shauna DiCanio (Amanda Setton), a self-assured Jersey Girl who is indifferent to Mindy. Shauna always knows where the cool parties are and carries a poorly concealed torch for Danny.
Mindy’s also in constant contact with her sometimes too-blunt best friend from college, Gwen Grandy (Anna Camp). She has a unique view of the world as the governor’s daughter and a lawyer-turned-Pilates mom.
