NBC hasn’t had much luck airing original dramas over the summer months. Will The Night Shift be a different ratings story? Will it be renewed for a second season or, will it be cancelled instead? Stay tuned to find out.
The Night Shift revolves around the quirky but devoted staffmembers of San Antonio Memorial Hospital who work from dusk til dawn. The cast of the medical drama includes Eoin Macken, Jill Flint, Ken Leung, Brendan Fehr, Daniella Alonso, Robert Bailey Jr., Jeananne Goossen. J.R. Lemon, and Freddy Rodriguez.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
7/1 update: NBC has renewed Night Shift for a second season.
Final season averages: 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.59 million total viewers.

Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like The Night Shift TV show? Would you like to see it cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Night Shift is so much fun! Love the characters and every girl is smokin’, white hot! Nice endings and fun people. Wow, I think I’m saying I’m entertained! Keep the show NBC. Hell, put me on it! It will have a Simpsons run if you hire me.
I really like this show. I hope it’s renewed for another season. All shows need 2 seasons to prove it’s self.
I think Night Shift should be renewed! I love it……the whole cast is great! Love how quickly it all moves and the camaraderie between them……..Very different from anything on TV and we all know it’s mostly crap!
Love the show! – edgy dialogue, strong characters, exciting, dramatic storylines, with a mixture of humor and poignancy. Hope it is renewed!
In all my 30 years of firefighting, I never saw a doctor arrive on the scene and take over like this clown, really? Count the number of times this guy comes on the scene and saves the day. I’m sorry, this show should get the hook, it’s a waste of airtime, pull the plug, save humanity….
If recent rating are an indication, Night Shift may not be renewed. It does not help its cause when a worthless show like Celebrity Wife Swap beat out Night Shift.
Renew the damn thing already!
I love Night Shift. It is a wonderful combination of ER along with elements of MASH. I love the way that the characters served together in the military and are still working together in the ER. Can’t wait to see the history behind TC and Jordan’s relationship.
Hoping that Night Shift will become a full season show!!
This show is terrible! THe acting is some of the worst I have seen, especially the main “bad body Dr.” character. It is like thye took the worst characters from ER, Grey’s, House, and Chicago Hope and made a super-bad show. The writing doesn’t help it either. I watched 2 episodes with my wife and we deleted the series recording from our DVR. I would rather re-watch old ER episodes than watch this drivel.
I couldn’t agree more. It’s absolutely horrible.
Everyone has their opinions but please not be so mean about it.. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. It got renewed so your gonna have to deal with it.. I happen yo love it. I bet it better than shows you like.. May i ask what you like to watch regularly??
I preferred Saving Hope & am mad that I can’t still watch it. I liked this show the 1st episode & has steadily declined. After last night’s episode where I fast-forwarded the scenes where predictably someone from the military is involved in an accident where he has to fix people. As soon as I saw him out of the hospital I knew what would happen. And now next week’s episode with the “shocker” of TC not being over that chick & kissing her. Anyone else see that coming a mile away??? Anyway, I deleted it off my dvr & started… Read more »
Dear NBC… I was hooked from the start. The ensemble cast is very talented, and lovely to look at. However, episode #3, you lost me with the progressive liberal gun grabber wet dream depiction of the hog hunt. Really ? Was this the only possible way to depict gun owners? Fat white guys, drunk on their asses in the middle of the night, driving ATV’s hell bent for leather while firing randomly with both selective and full automatic fire, and screaming rebel yells. REALLY ? I understand your desire for a method to reinforce the PTSD injury, while pushing a… Read more »
Personally, I hate the acting. The dialog is also very predictable. The speaches they give in the operating room are ridiculous. I had hope for this show, but it’ll be cancelled. I’ll be surprised if it lasts a season.
Great show love it, have told all my friends, its a hit can’t wait until next weeks episode
The first episode was awkward while they were trying to set up the characters. It felt too contrived. However, the series is settling in nicely and the characters are less two-dimensional and more interesting. If given a chance, this could be a real winner.
Wow, cant believe peoples “bad rating comments”. I didnt think id like it but I really did. Thought it was best medical drama since first seasin of ER. I find it extremly interesting showing the dynamics of military doctors and what they experience once theyre back home. AND HOW could any HUMAN BEING. Watch episode 2 and they story of TC’s brother and not only NOT being able to turn it off but not have tears streaming down their face
