Are you ready for more of the Mikaelsons? The Originals TV show on The CW has been renewed for a fifth season. The fourth season of The Vampire Diaries spin-off kicked off on March 17th and is still ongoing. The show was on the cancellation “bubble,” so this renewal obviously comes as good news for the fans.
The Originals stars Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gillies, Phoebe Tonkin, Charles Michael Davis, Yusuf Gatewood, and Riley Voelkel. Claire Holt and Leah Pipes guest star. The CW supernatural drama series follows the Mikaelson family, the world’s first vampires, as they battle to reclaim New Orleans.
The Originals: A Look at the Ratings
The fourth season of The Originals is averaging a 0.34 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 972,000 viewers. Compared to season three, that’s down by 9% and up by 6%, respectively.
When we sort by the demo ratings, The Originals ranks tenth among the 16 CW TV shows we’re tracking. Sorting by average total audience size bumps it up to the ninth position. This season five renewal makes sense, since it will help beef up The Originals‘ syndication package.
As previously reported, Michael Narducci is departing as showrunner and series creator Julie Plec will take over. Leslie Morgenstern will also executive-produce.

The Originals is my favorite show! It should NOT be cancelled. If Supernatural can last 14 seasons so far, so can The Originals. It’s so much better!
I LOVE❤ this show and I’m surprised it was even on th chopping block anyway. I will b VERY UPSET if they cancelled this show & may stoo watching CW altogether. EVERYONE I know loves it. Its already bad enough they cancelled my shiw #Reign. That was another one of my *Favs. Come on… Get it together CW

I have watched this show since day 1, and I love the show and the characters!! there is never a dull moment I often find myself rooting for the Michelson family to win!! glad they got this win to do another season, the last episode left me wondering! Thanks CW!!

I am thrilled to read that the “Originals” will be coming back for at least a fifth season. I love this show!! After watching the season finale I was so afraid that was it. Please don’t change your mind and cancel the series! I for one will be one unhappy viewer. I watch many of CW’s series. 8 to be exact. All of them from their very beginnings!!
Great news,though season the season 4 finale felt like a series finale and I was worried it was going to be cancelled.
Also watch on Netflix when entire season is available.
