After The Playboy Club was cancelled by NBC, Playboy’s Hugh Hefner wrote, “It should have been on cable, aimed at a more adult audience.” Chad Hodge, the TV series’ creator and executive producer, agrees and hopes that the show will find new life there. Hodge is a Chicago native who previously worked on shows like Tru Calling and created CW’s Runaway.
He recently told Out, “I think NBC gave up too soon… Had NBC stuck with the show I think many more millions would have eventually shown up. Those who found the show realized it wasn’t what they expected — it was good. It was entertaining, sophisticated, and dazzling. It dealt with social mores and moral ethics. And it was an intentional guilty pleasure.”
Hodge is hopeful however that another NBC channel might still rescue Playboy Club. He said, “For weeks now, I’ve been saying we should move over to Bravo. This is a fun, sexy, soapy show, and our core audience is women and gay men. No brainer for them. Bravo has wanted to get into scripted programming for years now. I’d love them to pick up the show. If one million people watched our show on Bravo — a quarter of our NBC audience — it would be a runaway hit.”
The show creator believes that Americans are too conservative about sex, but too liberal when it comes to violence. He noted, “What happened? Remember Basic Instinct? Fatal Attraction? The Red Shoe Diaries? We’ve become such prudes… Sexuality is part of life. I’d be more worried about my kid seeing horrific violence than I would about them seeing network-approved make-out sessions.”
What do you think? Is Bravo a better fit for Playboy Club? Would you watch it there?

I would watch it anywhere.
Maybe part of the reason this showed failed was because this guy thought their core audience was going to be women and gay men. It has Playboy in its name, anyone with the slightest bit of intelligence knows the core audience should have been straight men.
totally!! i loved this show and really hope it gets another chance, it has everything to be a huge, lasting success
We would follow it if it moved to Bravo. Probably a better fit. We like the nostalgia of the show and much of it is very accurate portrayals. Our kids probably don’t get it though. We’re in our early and late 50’s.
What are people really upset about? They either haven’t actually seen the show or had the wrong expectations. I love the show! This is why: It actually has an interesting story- I like that all the characters are different with their own set of problems for us to watch unfold It’s not nearly as sexually focused as I thought- I’ve seen more sex on shows aimed at teens It has the vintage backdrop which I love, plus they highlight the music of that era- I mean it is about a club so there must be music. People should give it… Read more »
Hi im from Australia and like this show please keep it going onto another channel
Playboy Club was my husband/my favorite show! We”ll watch it whatever!
We are both early 60 (ish) years old…fyi.
Yes would def watch it
I expect that the creator, Hodge, will discover that the show wasn’t what he expected. It was bad. This show didn’t tank because of viewers being prudes. Sex sells, and this show would have been very popular if it wasn’t so poorly written.
I would love to watch The Playboy Club ANYWHERE! Seriously if they released the season purely for purchase online I would buy it! I would buy it, the music, and any apps related! Please someone rescue my favorite show!
I stumbled across the show by accident the first night it aired. I would watch this show on any channel. I haven’t been interested in watching any show on the major networks in years and couldn’t take my eyes off the show. I couldn’t wait for the next week to see what would happen. Each week the plots got more interesting and captured my attention as plots begin to unfold. I only saw 3 episodes and was extremely disappointed to hear it was cancelled.
YES YES YES!!! thank you for the brilliant suggestion!!
Yes, I believe that “The Playboy Club” should move to Bravo because I think that the show would more successful. But if I were you Mr. Hodge, I would take the show to a premium cable channel such as HBO, Starz, or Showtime because I believe that the show would achieve even greater success. And you wouldn’t have to worry about the FCC or PTC being on your ass about the show’s content.
Yes, this was a no brainer!!!!
Yes, do it.
I liked the show…was a fun reminder of those days in the 60s!
Bring it back!!!!
And yes, NBC SHOULD HAVE GIVEN IT A CHANCE. AFTERALL, 3 EPISODES ONLY AIRED.
