Last year, ABC began airing Resurrection — a series about people returning from the dead, based on the book The Returned by Jason Mott. It did well in its first season but tanked in the ratings in season two and is sure to be cancelled. Now, A&E has unveiled their own show called The Returned, based on the French TV show Les Revenants. Will it survive to see a second season or will it be cancelled? Stay tuned.
On The Returned, the residents of a small town have their lives turned upside down when some of their loved ones appear to return from the dead. The cast includes Mark Pellegrino, Tandi Wright, Jeremy Sisto, India Ennenga, Sophie Lowe, Mat Vairo, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kevin Alejandro, Sandrine Holt, Dylan Kingwell, Aaron Douglas, Rhys Ward, Leah Gibson, Agnes Bruckner, and Michelle Forbes.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.
6/15 update: A&E has cancelled The Returned after one season. Details here.
Final season averages: 0.38 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.05 million total viewers.

Note: These are the final national numbers and are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like The Returned TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or be renewed for a second season?
I’m a lot older than the young viewers and I love this show.
Me too!
NO! I hope they don’t cancel it!!!!
Love the show would hate to see it cancelled next season.
LOVE THIS SHOW!!!
I like the series, and fervently hope that it will be renewed for a 2d season and beyond.
love the show hope you keep it going I know it wasn,t the first for the Idea however it seems the freshest!! characters are a lot of fun. And you want to pull for the good returned and see the bad get sent right back to were they were before !! and were was that ? will we find out ?
no one ever delves into that . That would make the best show ever if a mystery into that were
followed and answered!!
Sorry. It is canceled.
No, it isn’t. Resurrection was the cancelled one.
Oops, my bad!
If I was replying to a post about The Returned. Finding anything in context on here is something that still eludes me. I am through searching through hundreds of comments to find my old ones.
I have already canceled my subscription to this for that reason, but I guess this came through before that did.
Resurrection is Not based on Les Revenants! The Returned gets better and creepier each week, great show.
Resurrection is NOT based on Les Revenants. They stole the idea of dead people coming back but that’s it. The Returned IS the US version of Les Revenants. It’s the same storyline, same characters, etc. It’s a great show.
Thanks for the note. I’ve updated the post.
I’m not a fan of this show.
I love this show! I watch it, bates motel and the vikings and the returned is my favorite. I wait all week for a new episode. I hope it is renewed!!! I haven’t found a show I loved this much since LOST.
LOVE this show!!! Please A&E, don’t cancel!
I will admit I have not watched this show, but that gets to my point: why should I or anyone else watch it and why was it even made? The French show The Returned is still being aired on Sundance with season two coming later this year! It is one of the best dramas on television and probably the most original in the fantasy/horror genre. The American show Resurrection was good but not nearly so compelling and unique. What? Are subtitles really that big of a problem? Or are we so ethnocentric that we need to have every story retold… Read more »
The answer to why in entertainment is usually MONEY. Thanks for mentioning the subtitles on Sundance. Now I will not bother to check it out. Subtitles are a problem for me. I am restless and don’t just sit and stare at a show. If I am leaving the room I will pause but if I am in the room I like to be able to do other things and still keep up with the program by listening. I don’t have a problem with subtitles being on the screen. I usually have them on with English speaking shows because there is… Read more »
Valid point. I guess this American show was made for you. Enjoy!
“French culture” You need to get out more if you think Les Revenants was portraying French culture at all. They wore American university shirts, there was a diner that you would find in middle America, signs in English, they ate meals closer to the way Americans do, and they had mainly American music or English-singing bands. The only real French aspect is the fact that they speak French. Ironically, the American one is less American than the French one. I like the remake better and appreciate their different approaches on all the characters/stories, it just makes more sense. They also… Read more »
Good comments and I will admit I’ve never been to France, but you must be overstating the American presence on the series. It is a French show made primarily for a French audience and I saw many cultural elements that were not American at all. Apart from that, this was simply powerful, very original, and very scary dramatic fantasy. Not only were my wife and I thoroughly engrossed by it, but everyone we recommended the show to had the same experience.
I LOVE this show – it’s making me hungry for Season Two of Les Revenants on Sundance.
I love this show. It is getting really good and that little boy is a seriously creepy kid. The show is just really strange. Good story and acting for the plot.
It’s so good to see that A&E’s attempt to have total control and produce their own in house shows to make MORE money is a flop. These ratings are terrible. Their 1st mistake is to redo a french show that had already been redone by a major network and is still on the air and not doing well. So much for originality A&E! They cancel their highest rated drama Longmire last year that was pulling in twice the coveted demo and more than 6 times the total viewers of this show to give their viewers things like this? Those younger… Read more »
I think the ratings age being used now is not the best way to determine who is watching. A tv series. Using 19 to 49 year old is too much of a broad age for a proper, rating on who is watching a program. 40 50’s olds like programs that 19 to around 35 year old do not. Plus the younger folks are at a different life style than us in our mid 40’s and 50’s. A lot of the 20 to 30 year old do not even know who a lot of the older actors are such as Kevin… Read more »
