ABC has cancelled one daytime series and renewed two others. Fans of General Hospital can breathe easy, at least for a little while.
The network has confirmed that The Revolution, their ratings-challenged talk show, will go off the air on July 6th. The TV series debuted in January and took the place of One Life to Live. Hosted by Tim Gunn, Harley Pasternak, Ty Pennington, Jennifer Ashton, and Tiffanie Davis, The Revolution has been a ratings disappointment and has been averaging about 1.3 million viewers according to Deadline.
Meanwhile, both General Hospital and The Chew have been renewed for the 2012-13 season. While General Hospital’s viewer numbers have come down over the years, the ratings have shown signs of improvement. In late March, GH averaged 2.3 million viewers while The Chew drew 2.2 million. The Revolution pulled in just 1.3 million.
Katie Couric’s new talk show, Katie, is slated to premiere on September 10th and will air at 3pm on most stations. Until that happens, ABC will fill the timeslot with an hour-long afternoon version of Good Morning America, tentatively titled GMA in the Afternoon.
While the alphabet network hasn’t said as much, they are obviously still searching for low-cost programming to fill their daytime hours. While the renewal of General Hospital has ensured that the venerable soap opera will reach its 50th anniversary — on April 1, 2013 — there’s certainly no guarantees beyond that.
What do you think? Did ABC make the right decision to renew General Hospital? Do you think it will reach its 51st year?

If ABC cared about its viewers ( the people that pay their salaries), they would not have canceled All My Children and One Life to Live. Nothing they could put on in there place would ever make people cry over demise. They are heartless and only care about cheap shows such as the chew so they can pay themselves more millions. Put back on One Life and make loyal viewers thrilled.
I really like The Chew and The Revolution! I am sorry that the network has decided to cancel The Revolution. I always glean good information from The Revolution and The Chew!! Where as I look forward to the GMA in the Afternoon , I would love to see The Revolution make a come back!!
The darkest thing that ever happened to daytime television was when ABC executives thought that canceling the daytime soaps would help improve & capture a fresher market perspective. Ugh, I am sorry but if I wanted to watch a food show I would turn on the Food Network. I refuse to watch another second of reality T.V. , if that’s what young adults are now spoon feed & believe is entertainment-we have all gone to hell in a hand basket & are doomed. Reality T.V. is mindless, cheap, and requires no I.Q. to watch or produce. I am ashamed of… Read more »
please cancell the chew it’s sooooooooo stupid. daphnie. that scarey looking chick.. that guys laugh …horrible.. in spite of the fact that they saturate the shows with all the abc stars..it still sucks.please bring back oltl.. i have 4 generations still upset.we’ve been watchiong over 40 years .now that’s loyalty. at least concider a few ideas.. make them a 1/2 hour each… or combine amc and oltl.. there both in pa. right. pine valleyites need a chance of scenery anyway.. bring back the real maxie pleaseeeeee. also i’m sorry but the starr charater isn’t working on gh.. over acting..bad
I am so glad the Chew was renewed. It’s fun to watch a show where the hosts get along, where the egos don’t get in the way, the recipes are great, and it makes us smile. So many chefs have a rep for anger and profanity and ego. The Chew hosts are good fun!
I’m SO glad that The Chew got renewed. I love all the hosts personalies, they make me laugh everyday and the recipes are to die for! I used to watch AMC, I was sad to see it go, but I’m really enjoying the Chew.
I love the chew!! Its the best show you have 5 people with different ideas on food comming together and I find them to be funny and informative! I’m glad that they will be returning next year!
[…] The Revolution (ABC) The network replaced venerable soap opera One Life to Live with this self-help show and daytime viewers stayed away in droves. […]
I have really enjoyed the Revolution. I would rather they kept the Revolution and got rid of the Chew. I feel like the hosts are more personable and give me way better advice on the Revolution. They may even be able to do a hybrid where they add members of the Chew to the Revolution…like Daphne and Clinton.
I hope all these food and talk shows choke, cause they all suck, and ABC should be ashamed of themselves for even putting crap like that on the air!!!!!!!
I do not like the Chew or the Revolution….I use to watch ABC channel 7 from GMA to
Ophra every day….but not any longer it goes off after the View. Miss my soaps….:(
want All My Children and One Life to Live Back. We don’t need any more Talk, Doctor
Food, or Reality Shows. OBTW I turn to channel 4 during The Doctors…..don’t want
to hear over and over and over again what could and will happen to me…..enough please!!!
Hate the chew and the revolution. They both suck and I hope abc falls on their face for taking away amc and oltl. That is all
THANK YOU FOR KEEPING GENERAL HOSPITAL!!!!!!! I ABSOLUTELY AM SICK OF REALITY TV AND THEIR CRAPPY SHOWS! Take the Chew toooooooooooo and bring back All My Children and One Life To Live and for Gods sake leave Young and the Restless alone. Can’t we have some daytime soaps INSTEAD OF ALL THE TALK SHOWS AND NEWS!!!!!!!!!! I’m ready to have my tv cable turned off.
I am not happy that the Revolution has been canceled. I found it to be very informative on a variety of topics. I enjoyed the diversity of the cast. A sad sad day!!!!!!!!!
If there is any chance that it might return that would be wonderful.
Thanks for leaving us at least General Hospital!!!!!!!!!!! You have to many of talk shows and food shows. They all discuss the same topics over and over!! They get boring after you have heard the topic one time. The soaps are a way better option. Thanks again and here’s to the next 20 years…..
