Who could have envisioned that animated segments on The Tracey Ullman Show would become a regular FOX series that would still be on the air 30 years later? Some have suggested that The Simpsons has now run out of gas but many felt that way 10 or 20 years ago and it remains one of the network’s top-rated shows. Is The Simpsons sure to be renewed for season 31 or, could it potentially be cancelled? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
An animated comedy series on FOX, The Simpsons stars the voices of Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, Hank Azaria, and Harry Shearer. Now the longest-running American sitcom, the show revolves around working stiff Homer Simpson (Castellaneta), his understanding wife Marge (Kavner), delinquent son Bart (Cartwright), intellectual daughter Lisa (Smith), infant Maggie, and their Springfield friends and neighbors.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
10/21 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.

For comparisons: The 29th season of The Simpsons on FOX averaged a 1.42 rating in the 18-49 year old viewer demographic and a total audience of 3.45 million viewers.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like The Simpsons TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a 31st season?
2/6/19 update: FOX has renewed The Simpsons for season 31 (2019-20) and season 32 (2020-21).
I have loved this show since it first started. BUT I also voted for, and will again for president Trump. When this cartoon started bashing our elected president, that’s it. Makes me sick to watch. Entertainment needs to stay just that. Funny cartoon and NOT political left wing derangement. This show is dead to me now.
I still love this show…
Eh, still watchable.
For 30th time get rid of it people we not from 1989 long time before most us were born. Let it die out please.
Yeah, it should go off the air for good in the Spring of 2019.
