TV show description:
A high concept thriller, this TV show follows Doctor Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City.
When a plane lands at John F. Kennedy International Airport with the lights off and doors sealed, Eph and his team –including Nora Martinez and Jim Kent — are called upon to investigate. Inside, they find 200 corpses and four survivors.
Later, the bodies start disappearing from the morgues and the team soon realizes that it’s a mysterious viral outbreak — one with the hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, the team and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers are forced to wage war for the fate of humanity.
An intelligent and driven biochemist, team member Martinez (Mia Maestro) is in love with Eph but understands he’s trying to repair his marriage, and she encourages him to be a part of his son’s life. Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Nora moved to the US with her mother when she was eight.
Jim Kent (Sean Astin) has a wife dying from cancer. In an effort to save her life, Jim makes a poor decision early on that puts everything into jeopardy.
Kelly Goodweather (Natalie Brown) is Eph’s estranged wife who’s become smarter and more secure since separating from him. A school teacher by day, her focus is on their 11-year-old son son, Zack (Ben Hyland) — a asthmatic, quiet and self-reliant boy. He is her life’s work and her legacy. Her boyfriend, Matt Sayles (Drew Nelson), moved in with them and he is more available (and subservient) than Eph ever was.
Abraham Setrakian (David Bradley) is a pawnbroker in his 80’s who has the vigor of a much younger man. In his early teens, Setrakian first encountered the Ancient vampire known as the Master (Robert Maillet) during his internment at a Nazi concentration camp. Setrakian failed to kill him then — and has spent his life waiting and preparing for another opportunity.
Eldritch Palmer (Jonathan Hyde) is a wealthy, esteemed businessman and the owner of the Stoneheart Group. He has struggled with his poor health all his life, but he does not planning on dying.
The Master’s chief lieutenant is Thomas Eichhorst (Richard Sammel) who retains his human appearance and more individuality in order to walk among the living. During the second World War, he helped run the death camps — which is where he first encountered Setrakian and the Master.
A charismatic, second-generation Russian from Brooklyn, Vasiliy Fet (Kevin Durand) is the best exterminator for the NYC Bureau of Pest Control. He considers himself the steward of NYC.
Augustin ‘Gus’ Elizalde (Miguel Gomez) is a Latino gangbanger from Spanish Harlem. He wants to do well by his mother who fought to make a good life for him. When Gus agrees to make some quick cash, it’s too much money to say “no”. Soon, he is wondering what kind of mess he’s gotten himself into this time.
Gabriel Bolivar (Jack Kesy) is one of the four survivors of the Regis flight 753. He’s a world famous rock star with a penchant for women and drugs. His stature and popularity make him especially enticing to the Master.
Episode #46 – The Last Stand
Quinlan devises a desperate plan, but the costs are enormous. Eph wrestles with his conscience, Fet undertakes a suicide mission, and Dutch and Gus dig in for battle as humankind makes its final stand against the Master and his Strain.
First aired: September 17, 2017.
What do you think? Do you like The Strain TV show? Do you think it should have ended or been renewed for a fifth season?
Yes, I like the show. Please keep it on.
I like zombies a lot
I think that this was a well conceived show with an imaginative concept in that it diverges from the prevalent vampire genre in it’s exploration of the genesis of evil. I also would expect nothing less from the genius of Guillermo del Toro. Which is why I am a little disappointed. unfortunately it is not entirely well cast and the direction after the first couple shows seems erratic and almost at times amateurish. within the screen play from episode 3 onward there were several opportunities to connect with the characters that were rather ham handed and stilted. Personally I think… Read more »
Its not cancelled, read the status. Everyone keeps saying it it is but its not.
I really have enjoyed The Strain series sofar and hope it continues. I want too see the story between Eph and Martinez grow more since his wife is pretty much history . Also want see the progression of Abraham’s plight to combat the Master please keep the series going!!!!!!!
Absolutely love this show, the storyline of an ancient vampire 7 the way the people involved brought the Master here & they continue to send fear across NYC & eventually the country!! I hate to hear this show get cancelled & I thought I heard it is still a go!!!!!!!!!!1
Hooked !!!!!……….Can’t wait for new episodes
What were they thinking? Cancelled? Their insane, it’s one of the best and most original Vampire shows ever. FIRE THE PERSON WHO EVEN THOUGHT TO CANCEL THIS SHOW, HE HAS LITTLE OR NO BUSNESS SENSE!!!! I love every episode, wondered what happened!
Its not cancelled. 2016 Season 3
Please don’t leave us hanging I love where it was going and I know the writers can continue on with great shows thank you
I really enjoyed The Strain and want it back. Please do not leave us hanginf like this. Not fair. We neeed to know want happens.
I thought the strain was a great series and showed promises of becoming an even better. Instead, they brought back really great shows such as Mafia Housewives showing how much they have to struggle now that that their sweet mobster is doing time. Or some version of the cooking channel. Nice work guys!
cannot wait for new shows to cone on.
I haven’t read the books, so I don’t know how closely the tv show is following them. I like the show, but the two lead characters are intolerable. I really wish the writers had written more decent characters. Ephraim is a disgusting liar and cheat who supposedly loves his wife, but can’t keep his pants on with at least one other woman. And Martinez is the weak, pathetic bimbo coward Ephraim is cheating with. She can’t get the job done when necessary and her inability to step up would have gotten the characters killed sooner. For instance, Jim (Astin) said… Read more »
Beautiful filming, grabbed me right away. I didn’t know there were books, am now reading them. I care about some characters, I hate some which equals good writing/good acting. I love that the music is not overdone because it doesn’t need it. I am truly scared. Good work!
doctor goodmen is pissing me off real bad in stead of listen to Abraham who been through it but other than that they need to get it through there head they cant cure it I love the show
I watched it and it’s an interesting premise. If anyone can pull it off rodriguez can. I just hope it doesn’t fall into the same old genre of blood thirsty killing things with people trying to figure out a way to get rid of them. I’m sure he can come up with some interesting twists.
