Court will soon be adjourned for ABC’s new legal drama. The Whole Truth has been cancelled.
Airing on Wednesday nights, The Whole Truth stars TV veterans Rob Morrow and Maura Tierney. He plays a powerful defense attorney who was raised on the wrong side of the tracks. Tierney is on the opposite side as a Senior Trial Assistant District Attorney whose father was a sheriff. Viewers are shown how each side builds their case, using their own version of “the truth.” The rest of the cast includes Eamonn Walker, Sean Wing, Anthony Ruivivar, and Christine Adams.
For whatever reason, most viewers haven’t been willing to even give the series a try. The legal drama got off to a very poor start right out of the gate. Whole Truth debuted on September 22th to a poor 1. 5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.85 million viewers. The news got even worse in week two and the rating dropped by 20%. The last two episodes seem to have evened off, registering a 1.3 rating and about 4.4 million total viewers.
The Whole Truth’s been ABC’s lowest rated show, attracting an even lower rating than My Generation; another freshman drama that was pulled after just two episodes. Likely because of the caliber of the show’s cast and because it’s being co-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer’s company, ABC has been more patient with it. That doesn’t mean however that they’re going to order any more episodes. ABC has now cancelled The Whole Truth.
Via Twitter, co-executive producer KristieAnne Reed confirmed that the cast and crew will complete the initial 13 episode order but that will be the end. At this point, it’s unclear how many of those will actually air.
Whole Truth remains on the schedule this week but will be preempted next week for the In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts: All Access Nashville interview special. On November 10th, ABC airs the Country Music Awards. Whole Truth is tentatively scheduled to return after that but those plans could certainly change.
Though Whole Truth has been cancelled, there is some positive news for fans of the show. With the news of the cancellation coming this far in advance, producers have time to give the series some closure. The cast and crew are still shooting and are scheduled to continue until mid-December.
What do you think? Should The Whole Truth have been cancelled? Why do you think it didn’t catch on?

I loved this show. I wish they would reconsider this whole thing and maybe put it on another time slot? Please do not cancell this show please try at a different time. I hate the defenders. There are other nights when things are not on.
I love this show; it is well written and acted and different. ABC is nuts!!
I think this show could catch on if they would give it time. The networks don’t seem to understand that we can only watch one thing at a time. Even though I record many shows and watch them when I get time, recording them doesn’t count as being viewed- and it should. It also seems strange that all the networks seem to come out with the same type of shows each year and then we are inundated with either lawyer shows. cop shows or medical shows. It’s all or nothing. I am so sick of the reality shows, and cancellations… Read more »
My wife and I enjoy this show and do not think it should be cancelled
Sorry guys, but this show was just too bland and tired for me to get through even half an episode. I’ve actually been waiting for this to be canceled, so I can quote the following from tvbythenumbers.com, which sums up the situation perfectly: “You can’t handle The Whole Truth! Son, we live in a world where broadcast networks have to make a living. And that living has to be made by selling advertising on their shows. Who’s gonna do it? You? You “The Whole Truth” fan? ABC has a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for the… Read more »
I really like Maura Tierney from “ER” and wanted so much to like this show…however, I just could not like it. I have watched every episode, hoping it would get better, but it never did. The basic concept is flawed. It just does not work to have the same DA vs. the same defense attorney every single week. It quickly got stale. The caliber of the writing was also at fault. Compare it to “The Good Wife”, which has fresh twists and turn and interesting situation each week. Sadly, The Whole Truth just does not measure up. Sorry to see… Read more »
I do not think this show should have been cancelled. It is one of the better new shows of the season and I found it quite entertaining.

The Whole Truth started slowly and got better with each episode. I truly enjoy the show and I am saddened that The Whole Truth has been canceled.
Bummer. Big bummer. Long time fan of Morrow and liked Tierney on ER. Eamonn Walker is also a great actor.
This was a great show. Normally watching a show I immediately sided with the defense (or prosecution if I was watching Shark) but this one I watched curiously because I didn’t want to know right away. I loved those final reveals.
Also, it’s too bad ABC doesn’t understand that something will always be last place. LOLA and The Defenders are going to kick the butt of whatever replaces The Whole Truth. I didn’t like either of those shows
I am sad that this is cancelled, but only because I adore and admire Maura Tierney! The show itself lacks sophistication and detail! I have nothing against Rob Morrow, but he was just the wrong person to cast in that role! I just hope Maura returns to television and movies in new roles!!
Of course not. And that is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. The sad truth is that so many people want to watch junk on TV, such as reality shows which come from the depths of hell.
Just cannot believe another great show has been pulled. Just pushes me back to cable more and away from the networks. Great shows like Breaking Bad, Mad men, The Closer, Sons of Anarchy, Justified, Dexter, Boardwalk Empire, etc, etc, would never make it on network tv, so now they have just given me more time to watch them!
That sux. WTFE!
Don’t know about this show, and don’t care. I’m sick of Maura Tierney (thanks to E/R) and would not watch anything she’s in anyway.
I like the show; no idea why it didn’t catch on. I’m sad to hear it is going to be cancelled.
