Court will soon be adjourned for ABC’s new legal drama. The Whole Truth has been cancelled.
Airing on Wednesday nights, The Whole Truth stars TV veterans Rob Morrow and Maura Tierney. He plays a powerful defense attorney who was raised on the wrong side of the tracks. Tierney is on the opposite side as a Senior Trial Assistant District Attorney whose father was a sheriff. Viewers are shown how each side builds their case, using their own version of “the truth.” The rest of the cast includes Eamonn Walker, Sean Wing, Anthony Ruivivar, and Christine Adams.
For whatever reason, most viewers haven’t been willing to even give the series a try. The legal drama got off to a very poor start right out of the gate. Whole Truth debuted on September 22th to a poor 1. 5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.85 million viewers. The news got even worse in week two and the rating dropped by 20%. The last two episodes seem to have evened off, registering a 1.3 rating and about 4.4 million total viewers.
The Whole Truth’s been ABC’s lowest rated show, attracting an even lower rating than My Generation; another freshman drama that was pulled after just two episodes. Likely because of the caliber of the show’s cast and because it’s being co-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer’s company, ABC has been more patient with it. That doesn’t mean however that they’re going to order any more episodes. ABC has now cancelled The Whole Truth.
Via Twitter, co-executive producer KristieAnne Reed confirmed that the cast and crew will complete the initial 13 episode order but that will be the end. At this point, it’s unclear how many of those will actually air.
Whole Truth remains on the schedule this week but will be preempted next week for the In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts: All Access Nashville interview special. On November 10th, ABC airs the Country Music Awards. Whole Truth is tentatively scheduled to return after that but those plans could certainly change.
Though Whole Truth has been cancelled, there is some positive news for fans of the show. With the news of the cancellation coming this far in advance, producers have time to give the series some closure. The cast and crew are still shooting and are scheduled to continue until mid-December.
What do you think? Should The Whole Truth have been cancelled? Why do you think it didn’t catch on?

i love this show, im dissappointed that abc has cancelled it, the acting is great and the story lines really good, it blows my mind that a quality show like this gets canceled and trashy shows like wipe out remain on the air…
This is a great show. We kept looking for the new episodes and realized the sad truth. It was our entire family’s favorite. What is wrong with the
eggheads in the front office that cancelled it.
This is a unique show. The actors had such chemistry, also.
PLEASE reconsider.
Really, really disappointed this was cancelled……we need new dramas on tv, with good actors….this show should have been given a better chance
This show has not had a fair chance. With DVR, alot of us don’t watch ads for new shows and are a little late finding them. Give it some time.
So disappointed this show was cancelled. I really like Maura as an actress. Also disappointed they cancelled my generation.
I have commented before about how disappointed I was that this program was cancelled and also the cancellation of The Forgotten last year. Both of these programs have more character and plot than any lawyer and cop show since The District and Matlock!! I think it is an interesting story when you do not know who is going to win or what the WHOLE TRUTH is. If any more episodes of this program air, I want to find out when they are on and watch something exciting for a change.
This was a show with thought provoking plots and excellent conclusions. I am extremely disappointed that it has been cancelled. It seems a bit unfair that it had been preempted so early in its season. Could this have contributed to its demise?
I love this show!! I agree that it’s ridiculous that great shows like this get cancelled in favor of crappy tv shows. I think ABC is making a huge mistake and should instead figure out what they’re doing wrong in their lineup that this show is nor getting better ratings. Part of it could be a lack of advertising. I didn’t know it was on I just stumbled across it an loved it while some other shows I cant watch tv for 5 minutes without it being advertised. Wake up ABC!!!
You have got to be kidding me. All the horrible stuff that stays on TV and you cancel a good show after a few episodes.
I am very disappointed to hear it was cancelled. The show is interesting, has a good storyline, great actors. The chemistry between the actors is very great. Keeps me interested the whole hour. I strongly feel it should be given another chance, maybe on a different time slot or promote it more. The show is really GOOD and I would really like to see it back.
I really liked the show. Not many good dramas on tv anymore with all the reality shows popping up on every network. What a shame they cancelled one show we really enjoyed.
I LOVED this show and am very bummed that it is not returning. The two stars of the show were awesome and were a great team!!
It’s a shame that the quality programs keep getting cancelled and the crap remains on the air! The Whole Truth had a different premise than the other legal shows. It was refreshing! Its unique perspective and presentation was entertaining and smart. We, the audience, did not just watch and play juror. I loved that we got to know the “whole truth” at the end of each episode. Perhaps a better timeslot would have helped.
I really liked the whole truth, why not try it on a different night, that s wht you do with other shows you play musical nights switching shows to different nights all the time.
MOST disappointed by the cancellation of this show! A thinking persons program; smart characters, fast paced, unique format, loved seeing the ending portrayed so cleverly. Two fine performers creating believable new characters easily discernable from their previous rolls. Wish you would reconsider and provide adequate advance network advertisement.
