Three Pines will not be returning to Prime Video for a second season. The streaming service has cancelled the murder mystery drama series starring Alfred Molina. The eight-episode first season wrapped on December 23rd.
Also starring Rossif Sutherland, Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers, and Sarah Booth, the series is based on the book series by Louise Penny. The story follows Chief Inspector Armand Gamache (Molina) as he investigates crimes in Three Pines, an idyllic village in the Eastern townships of Québec.
Prime Video said the following about the cancellation, per Variety:
“We are proud of the work done on the series and the opportunity to work with great partners.”
Penny spoke about the decision to cancel the series based on her work, per Deadline:
“I am shocked and upset. Like any show, [Three Pines] had growing pains but it was only going to get better and better.”
The showrunner of the series, Emilia di Giorlamo, also discussed the series’ demise on social media:
“Thank you for all the overwhelming messages about ‘Three Pines.’ I know there’s a lot of disappointment that the show won’t be returning and I’m sad for the wonderful cast, crew and fans.
I was not involved in the conversations and negotiations around renewal but I have been told Left Bank, Sony & Prime Video all wanted to bring the show back but were unable to reach a mutually beneficial agreement.”
One of the series’ stars, Tailfeathers, expressed their sadness over the drama’s cancellation:
“It has been difficult to process the news that there will be no second season of #ThreePines. Thank you to everyone who watched and supported the show. It meant the world to me knowing that this show resonated with such a massive global audience. As an Indigenous actor, I never thought I’d have the opportunity to be the leading woman on a #1 show like this. It was huge. Our stories matter and this show demonstrated that audiences, regardless of background, are hungry for Indigenous content.”
What do you think? Are you sad that Three Pines has been cancelled? Did you want to see a second season of the Prime Video drama?
Chancelling three pines, why? Cancelling this show is ********, finally found à show I like and ya’ll cancel it
What are you thinking. You had a great story line, great actors all based on the stories of one of the great authors of our time. Please reconsider your decision.
I am so disappointed that season 2 of 3 pines has been cancelled. Do you not realise what a wonderful series this is and with such brilliant actors who draw you in to the story. Does no-one there have any taste? Such an exceptional series cut off at a crucial part of the story and yet so many boring and rubbish series go on for ever! I suggest you sort out your priorities!
I am stunned to find out that Prime have cancelled season 2. This was a brilliant show with very fine acting and a well written script. Prime should be ashamed of themselves
What is the specific reason behind this?
I’m sure it has something to do with money. A cheap reality show will probably replace it!
I loved all the books and loved this show. I was shocked and immensely disappointed that there will be no season 2.
Brilliant writing. Brilliant acting. I’m so mad at Prime, right now!
Read the books. They are wonderful!
The show is absolutely wonderful. I love the Louise Penny books and the show brought it to life. I am so sad that it has been canceled. Wish there was something I could do. My family is from a reserve on the St. Lawrence in Quebec. This show spoke to my heart.
They keep the reality crap but cancel a great show with great actors. Shame on prime!!’
I also enrolled inPrime only to watch Three Pines. I am no longer enrolled. Three Pines was so excellent. Such a loss
I’m sorry that the series was canceled, and left the audience hanging.
I enrolled in Prime just to watch this show. I’m cancelling now.
I am so disappointed as I loved the series. Alfred Molina is a fine actor and a perfect Inspector Grenache, the First Nations aspect informative and important, and the Canadian settings different and attractive. How can Prime commission more expensive rubbish like Rings of Power and then cancel this?
This was one of my favorite shows. They cancel good shows and keep the stupid ones. Shame on Prime. I think I will cancel Prime. Hopefully another
steaming service will pick it up
