Three Pines will not be returning to Prime Video for a second season. The streaming service has cancelled the murder mystery drama series starring Alfred Molina. The eight-episode first season wrapped on December 23rd.
Also starring Rossif Sutherland, Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers, and Sarah Booth, the series is based on the book series by Louise Penny. The story follows Chief Inspector Armand Gamache (Molina) as he investigates crimes in Three Pines, an idyllic village in the Eastern townships of Québec.
Prime Video said the following about the cancellation, per Variety:
“We are proud of the work done on the series and the opportunity to work with great partners.”
Penny spoke about the decision to cancel the series based on her work, per Deadline:
“I am shocked and upset. Like any show, [Three Pines] had growing pains but it was only going to get better and better.”
The showrunner of the series, Emilia di Giorlamo, also discussed the series’ demise on social media:
“Thank you for all the overwhelming messages about ‘Three Pines.’ I know there’s a lot of disappointment that the show won’t be returning and I’m sad for the wonderful cast, crew and fans.
I was not involved in the conversations and negotiations around renewal but I have been told Left Bank, Sony & Prime Video all wanted to bring the show back but were unable to reach a mutually beneficial agreement.”
One of the series’ stars, Tailfeathers, expressed their sadness over the drama’s cancellation:
“It has been difficult to process the news that there will be no second season of #ThreePines. Thank you to everyone who watched and supported the show. It meant the world to me knowing that this show resonated with such a massive global audience. As an Indigenous actor, I never thought I’d have the opportunity to be the leading woman on a #1 show like this. It was huge. Our stories matter and this show demonstrated that audiences, regardless of background, are hungry for Indigenous content.”
What do you think? Are you sad that Three Pines has been cancelled? Did you want to see a second season of the Prime Video drama?
So sad
You left us with a terrible cliff hanger!! Please reconsider and let these actors bring the story to us. It’s so good!
Please, reconsider and let the series continue! Between exquisite story lines, writing and absolutely perfect cast, this series has huge potential.
A really good show. I’m disappointed.
My husband and I are really sad this series isn’t going to continue!! Great story, great actors, etc. We really hope that the “powers that be” will come back to the table and figure out a solution so that the fantastic storyline can continue. It is rare these days to such a well made series worth watching.
It’s really a shame, I was really looking forward to season 2, 3 ,4… Great writers and cast.
The Amazon prime series Three Pines deserved to be renewed. it is an excellent series and had potential for such growth. Considering the built-in audience of all the fans of the book series. I cannot imagine why it was not renewed. Please bring back this series.
Sad, frustrated and disappointed. It was so good and only going to get better. The books are marvelous, so much to inspire further seasons. For heaven’s sake, surely the companies could have acted like adults and agreed on something.
Sad and disappointed. Read all the novels and thought the series was true to the story line. Alfred Molina was the perfect Gamache. Suspecting money was the prime issue.
This was a great show with great actors and a great storyline. Why would they cancel?
Wow, I finally got into watching a crime drama show that’s worth watching, and then it gets cancelled. Not only that, but it leaves all of the fans hanging as to what happened. Very disappointed!
We were anticipating the second season of THREE PINES – very sorry to hear that the show has been canceled. PLEASE bring the show back – it is SO MUCH BETTER than most of the shows currently streaming on Prime.
Very disappointed! So much story material worth a series.
Amazon Prime, please reconsider your decision. This series is so well done, so well acted, that I recommend it to all my friends. Please, bring us another season. Don’t drop this show. It is one of the best out there.
This is extremely disappointing since I found the show very thoughtful, enjoyable, and well done. Based on the options for quality programming, I wish they would reconsider versus some of the other offerings that I wouldn’t watch.
