Perhaps NBC wishes they could time travel right about now. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network has been denied dismissal over a lawsuit regarding the TV series Timeless.
The action-adventure drama follows a history professor, a soldier, and a scientist as they travel through time to stop a mysterious criminal. The cast includes Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter, Malcolm Barrett, Goran Visnjic, and Paterson Joseph.
In September, Onza Entertainment sued NBC, claiming Timeless “was “ripped off” from Spanish drama El Ministerio del Tiempo (The Department of Time). Later, NBC and production company Sony fired back, saying the time-travel genre lends itself to overlap:
Time travel is a well-established genre in all forms of media. Moreover, in many examples of the genre, the generic story line involves characters whose time travel alters the course of history, often preventing bad things from happening.”
Now, a California federal judge has denied NBC and Sony’s motion to end the lawsuit. What this means for the future of Timeless is unclear. The show’s freshman season has performed okay in the ratings so far, earning an average rating of 1.12 in the 18-49 demo and 4.707 million viewers. But will the pending lawsuit ensure the show’s cancellation? NBC has not yet announced whether or not the series will be renewed.
The season finale of Timeless airs on February 20th.
What do you think? Do you watch Timeless? Do you want a second season?
I find Timeless to be a thoroughly enjoyable TV show. I have been captured by its travels though history and eagerly await each new episode. I think it would be horrible if NBC were to cancel this show. Please, please don’t!!
I want Timeless renewed.
California judge? They’re screwed. Damn liberal judges never get anything right.
I am a liberal and fan of Timeless. Your comment is ignorant. As an attorney I can say that while I disagree with the court’s decision, it has nothing to do with political ideology. It makes sense however that a conservative would “think” otherwise. I call that fake thinking.
love the show. great historical perspectives. a show that my wife and I enjoy watching together (she’s not normally a sci-fi fan). It has really matured through the season – the interaction among the characters is what makes it so good, along with the interesting way that historical events have been presented (loved the Alamo, Lincoln, Washington, etc.). Really want to see how they develop the Rittenhouse conspiracy. Not entirely sure why the Flynn character is all about killing people and changing history — I know he wants to change things so that his wife and child don’t get murdered,… Read more »
Please renew for a second season & give it chance to prove it’s self it can get better by season
is not just the concept of time traveling. sony didnt make any kind of pre-idea until onza came with a deal to make a show about time travel, and then suddenly: A SHOW OF TIME TRAVELING WITH EXACTLY THE SAME TYPE OF PROTAGONIST AND THE EXACT PROBLEMS AND PREMISES, such coincidence right?
I absolutely love this show, enjoyable and factual all at the same time . Please renew it, it’s good television.
Yes, please renew! I’ve enjoyed it so much. Love period pieces.
Please renew!!
This show got better through the season!
Great show, love time travel stories.
Yes, LOVE LOVE LOVE this show! I hope it is renewed for several seasons! I never miss an episode.
My family an I are huge fans. We don’t watch much TV but have found this show to be appealing to all ages and a learning opportunity about history too. Please don’t deprive us of the small amount of weekly TV entertainment we have! Renew this series!
Timeless is a good program. I make it a point to see it every week. The show should be renewed.
I love timeless it’s a great show don’t want to see it leave
I love time travel as a genre. Science fiction never gets the respect it deserves. I hope they continue the show. Time travel has been around since HG Wells. I think it’s a frivolous lawsuit.
