To no surprise whatsoever, NBC has cancelled their Monday night medical TV show, Trauma — for real this time.
Trauma revolves around a group of brave first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The NBC series got off to a poor start last fall with just a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.68 million viewers. The ratings fell from there and the show was essentially cancelled when the network decided not to order additional episodes beyond the initial baker’s dozen.
Then, in large part because the show was still in production and NBC needed additional original programming, the network ordered an additional seven episodes. Viewership continued to fall and NBC cut back their additional order to five installments. The last one aired on April 26th.
Though NBC has a lot of slots to fill on the 2010-11 schedule, Trauma’s ratings were just too low to pay for a second season. It’s been cancelled after 18 episodes.
Though devoted fans may mourn the series’ demise, a consolation might be that they got five more episodes than the ratings realistically warranted.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Trauma won’t be back next season? Any thoughts on how you would have wrapped up the series?

Watched Medium on NBC since the beginning. It’s gone to CBS. Loved Trauma. You took that off of your schedule. The only show I watch now on NBC is Friday Night Lights. Waiting for that to be canceled too. My favorite network is CBS. I now watch Medium as well as 6 other good shows on CBS. At least now I don’t have to do much channel changing.
I loved that show. They always cancel the good shows and leave the stupid ones on. Must have idiots making the decisions on what shows to keep and which to cancel…
Why does all the good tv shows get cancelled. They should start cancelling all the stupid reality shows they have got on. NBC is getting ridiculous
I meant ABC and NBC is really taking some good shows off air and putting on some of the dumbest ones I’ve ever seen……..
I am from the UK and have watched every single episode of Trauma in Virgin 1, and i am gutted to hear there wont be a second series. It has great characters, brilliant storylines and made excellent viewing. i’m as annoyed as i was when i found out there wasnt going to be a second series of Flash Forward, Shame on you NBC.
I live in Australia and we got this show on the late night time slot but i thought it was wicked.. It had great action fantastic characters but… you seriously cant leave it where you guys have left it.. Bring it back.. Love it..
haha Ron Whiteman . I am so sick turn on tv see these stupid reality tv shows dancing singers who think they got talent or people who ate to much fast food need lose weight, that is not entertainment , Worst off who are these people who watch this crap to give it ratings ? Put back on Shows like trauma , I want reality I will look to my own life . That wa sgood show and sad to say but someone in NBC needs to be fired , liek i said in older post , ill stick to… Read more »
A real shame – the best show to come over to the UK for a long time. This show could have and should have grown into a real smash, given the chance. Reading through the other comments it seems that NBC work along the same lines as the European TV companies – run with the dumbed-down programmes and feed the masses reality shows that are like watching paint dry.
NBC should have made it one of their ‘reality’ shows, then they would have stuck with it through thick and thin. Anytime they come up with a good show, they move it from time slot to time slot, then hold it out for a couple of weeks so people lose hope, then pop it back into the lineup as if nothing had happened. Finally, when everyone gives up, they claim it was the fault of the show, not theirs, and that they must cancel it to fill the slot with another show which will be given the same short-sighted treatment.… Read more »
For those fans wanting to help try to bring back the show go to NBC.com go down to contact US and look for feed back about shows and look under trauma and send them your feeling on the cancellation!!!!. (Every person helps) and lets bring back Trauma
I love Trauma and so does my mom and her co workers. My mom is a nurse and was one of those obsessed ER Fans…. So when ER ended it was as if their was nothing to watch for her. My family hates Mercy and Greys Anatomy because the shows just makes every one in the medical field look like freaking whores and im sorry i find that disrespectful to the people who save peoples lives and maybe yours every day…… So when trauma was on we finally found a medical show that we all loved!!!! it was great and… Read more »
I’m from the UK and have just caught up with the last few episodes. I am gutted there won’t be a second series, especially with how they’ve ended the show! I guess they’re leaving it open in case they decide to air it again. Cheers for that NBC!
I loved this show and don’t think you gave it much of a chance.
You have got to be kidding! Actually it makes sense after thinking about it for 2 seconds because that is how long NBC now takes to make all of their decisions these days. I remember all of my life when NBC led the pack year in and year out, they now can’t find their butt’s with both hands. Trauma was the best thing they have had on in years so why not take it off? NBC, I remember when Fox poked their heads out and you guys laughed and said there wasn’t room for another network and literally made fun… Read more »
BRING TRAUMA BACK 🙁 I used to watch it ONLINE it was sucha good show
I am glad to know that I am not the only one who feels that the way ratings are determined are incorrect. After all we are not in the days where you eat dinner by 6p.m. and in bed by 10p.m. most of us work, so the time shows come on and who can watch them live depends on the fact of IF YOU ARE AT WORK. So NBC saying that the ratings for Trauma were horrible I would like to know where they get their numbers. I want proof, after all my Grandmother use to say the proofs in… Read more »
