To no surprise whatsoever, NBC has cancelled their Monday night medical TV show, Trauma — for real this time.
Trauma revolves around a group of brave first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The NBC series got off to a poor start last fall with just a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.68 million viewers. The ratings fell from there and the show was essentially cancelled when the network decided not to order additional episodes beyond the initial baker’s dozen.
Then, in large part because the show was still in production and NBC needed additional original programming, the network ordered an additional seven episodes. Viewership continued to fall and NBC cut back their additional order to five installments. The last one aired on April 26th.
Though NBC has a lot of slots to fill on the 2010-11 schedule, Trauma’s ratings were just too low to pay for a second season. It’s been cancelled after 18 episodes.
Though devoted fans may mourn the series’ demise, a consolation might be that they got five more episodes than the ratings realistically warranted.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Trauma won’t be back next season? Any thoughts on how you would have wrapped up the series?

I am very dissapointed that you took Trauma off the air, again. It didn’t get a fair chance. Monday nights there are alot of stuff on and I’m sure all of the Trauma devotees never missed a episode of the show, but for the rest of the potential viewers didn’t get a chance to try the show. I’m sure if they saw it they would keep coming back for more. Maybe it should be put on a different night. Maybe perhaps Friday or Saturday nights. If you are the channel responsible for Chuck you should be ashamed of yourselves. Everytime I… Read more »
Trauma was the one tv series that completely consumed my day! I am a paramedic in IA. I have been working in the EMS field for a little over a year. Watching this show, Trauma, made me smile and become more excited about going to work for the 4th day in a row of a 12-16 hr shift. Yeah, the show was a little over the top, but it made me get excited for what could be next! If only my job was actually as dramatic and non-stop like Trauma. I wish Trauma would make another season!
I can’t believe they keep other shows on the air, but a well written and cast show has not chance of this network! I will stop watching anything on NBC.
I agree with everyone “NBC YOU SUCK” this was a great show.I hope you realize that you have no good programs as it is and now you’ve took off one that could have got you rateings.
NBC REAL SUCKS!!!! TRAUMA & MERCY WERE THE ONLY REASON I WATCHED NBC NOW I WILL NEVER START A SHOW ON NBC AGAIN. WHY WASTE MY TIME AND THEN THEY CANCEL IT. GOOD GOING NBC YOU JUST LOST ALOT MORE VIEWS THEN YOU THINK.
Always liked watching Trauma…started watching it instead of House. But I guess since Fox doesn’t screw with their shows, I’ll just go back to watching it. Sad that NBC cancels one of the few shows they have that people can stomach to watch. I’m simply sick of starting to enjoy a show only to have it yanked off the air, and I suppose since it seems to happen on NBC more often than not, we know where the problem lies…
Hey NBC, What is up with taking off TRAUMA on Monday nights? Then you wonder why your rating are so low an can’t compete with the other networks. This is the second time your doing this now. You took 3rd Watch off with no real reason too. Now this. You ********. I hope your network goes under an never comes back. You suck when it comes to TV programing. Just when you get something good on, you go an take it off. I hope Miami medical takes off now. It looks like CBS is the winner here .
.
This has been a highlight for me all year and to see it go is just sad. I think I will just move to watch National Geographic and shows that have real content since NBC seems to want to keep only those shows that require no use of the human brain.
I just arrived in the US (from Australia) and – as an Australian medic and someone who has worked in front of the cameras in television – I think this is a top class show. A great script, solid performances from the ensemble cast, a sense of realism for those in that profession, and a great balance of humour, energy, insight into the characters, and drama. Please bring it back. Please. I haven’t seen anything this good in a long time. Perhaps Greys Anatomy, which I also love for similar reasons. Please.
I loved this show. NBC we need MORE THEN reality TV and Jay Leno. What are you doing. This network used to be the best NOW it is the WORST
[…] Uncategorized 5/15/20104:32 pm The medical series “Trauma” was shot in and around San Francisco over the past year. But after narrowly escaping cancellation earlier this year, “Trauma” gets no second chance. Find out more from tvseriesfinale.com… […]
“Trauma” should be kept on….it’s the best medical show on tv since “ER”, and before that “Emergency!”. It’s good action, good storylines, humourous…it’s fun to watch.
Really brilliant NBC, cancel the intelligent shows like Trauma and Mercy before they can even get a good following. Keep crap shows like Chuck on, a show directed at an audience that has the mentality of a 14 year old.
NBC suffers from the same problem as many other American corporations do. They have
people in key decision making positions that have been promoted to their height of incompetence. i.e. (The Peter Principle) I too will be giving up any viewing of the NBC network.
Sonny, nobody EVER went broke under-estimating the intelligence of the American viewing public, and NBC is PRIME example of that!!!!!!!! I realize that the production costs on “Trauma” were high, but as my late father used to say, “You get what you pay for!” Quality television is always going to cost more that much of the DRECK now showing, or planned for, on NBC! Count ME among those who, in all probability, will cease viewing your network!
NBC leave trauma alone….. It is the best show you have we want it back on …………
We have enough blood and guts, cops and guns shows, why not let us enjoy this
one? I really looked forward to Trauma every Monday, now it’s gone like so many other good programs that were not given enough time to “grow an audience” . It’s getting to
the fact that I don’t want to even start getting interested in any new programs because my husband and I will never know what, why, or where did our progam go??
