To no surprise whatsoever, NBC has cancelled their Monday night medical TV show, Trauma — for real this time.
Trauma revolves around a group of brave first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The NBC series got off to a poor start last fall with just a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.68 million viewers. The ratings fell from there and the show was essentially cancelled when the network decided not to order additional episodes beyond the initial baker’s dozen.
Then, in large part because the show was still in production and NBC needed additional original programming, the network ordered an additional seven episodes. Viewership continued to fall and NBC cut back their additional order to five installments. The last one aired on April 26th.
Though NBC has a lot of slots to fill on the 2010-11 schedule, Trauma’s ratings were just too low to pay for a second season. It’s been cancelled after 18 episodes.
Though devoted fans may mourn the series’ demise, a consolation might be that they got five more episodes than the ratings realistically warranted.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Trauma won’t be back next season? Any thoughts on how you would have wrapped up the series?

NBC how could you cancel Trama and Mercy ? I love both shows
Why is it when I find a show I love to watch someone else decides its not good. This is making me so mad!!!
This is getting ridiculous. Good shows like Trauma keep getting cancelled. It’s to the point where I don’t even start watching most new shows anymore. I imagine that’s what a lot of people are doing and why viewer numbers are so low. Why become invested in a show that’s just going to be taken away?
Give these good shows a chance. Try putting them on a day when they aren’t competing with bigger shows and I bet you’ll have the viewers. It’s hard for a serious show like Trauma to compete with the viewership of DWTS and Bachelor/Bachelorette.
I left one comment previously but it seems that it was deleted by someone. I watched Trauma weekly from my D.V.R. and loved every minute of it. The only other series that I’ve watched consistantly is Chuck and recently the short series Who Do You Think You Are?, no other shows on NBC have any interest for me. They complain about ratings, but if they counted families like me who aren’t rich enough to sit in front of a TV every night and have to record shows to catch them when they can I’m sure their ratings would be excellent.… Read more »

What a bunch of screwballs nbc is!!! They really have no idea what the viewers want to see! Lets put some more Leno on and see how many more viewers they lose! They lost this one for good, its the only show they had that I cared anything about!
BRING TRAUMA BACK
Great Show. One my husband and I enjoyed watching together. Everything else for him is too sappy.
It is really sad that nbc would cancel a show that’s intelligent, real to life and educational. There are getting to be fewer and fewer good shows on the tellie that don’t cater to the 20+ couch potatoes out there. So, if they intend to keep cancelling what I watch, what is left is abc. So far they seem to be retaining shows that I care for. Sad, sad, sad.
Trauma was a good show. There is other was of keeping a show on without taking a good one off. Trauma in Miami isn’t going to last long after one episode.
shame on abc and nbc canceling witches of eastwick.law and order, and flash forward. I think I’ll skip tv altogether.
Boy leave it to NBC to cancel this show TRAUMA is one of the best new shows this season. You just can never find it cause someone there wants to drop it. I would just find it again and then it was gone please will a station with sense please buy it away from them. This is an awesone show. Rabbit was excellent and he plays the part well. The others were just as good. I suppose they will find some stupid reality show with that funny looking, self important, rich guy that believes he has an inside track on… Read more »
This is so stupid! Trauma was an amazing show and since I live an hour away from San Francisco it was so fun to watch because I’ve been there so many times. I can’t believe they cancelled it. There are SO my stupid shows out there and they cancel TRAUMA!? Big mistake. Besides, they left that cliff hanger between Rabbit and Nancy and I want to know what was going to happen and know thanks to NBC, I’ll never get to!!!!
I cant believe they cancelled this show. One of the best shows on TV that I looked forward to every week and very good actors. There are plenty of really dumb shows on which they cancel and please dont replace this excellent drama with another REALTY SHOW.
What is wrong with you people?
i think that trauma is a great show and that it should stay on the air. I know some people may not take into consideration that maybe since everything was switched over to digital that not everybody has access to the free channels they used to. And can no longer watch the network shows that they once did. Maybe the networks should take into account the internet ratings as well as the TV ratings. For those of us who refused to pay $60 for the digital converter boxes we rely on the internet to watch to shows.
I don’t watch many shows in prime time on NBC, but I did watch Trauma. Guess it’s back to ABC or CBS to watch the shows I like.
