To no surprise whatsoever, NBC has cancelled their Monday night medical TV show, Trauma — for real this time.
Trauma revolves around a group of brave first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The NBC series got off to a poor start last fall with just a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.68 million viewers. The ratings fell from there and the show was essentially cancelled when the network decided not to order additional episodes beyond the initial baker’s dozen.
Then, in large part because the show was still in production and NBC needed additional original programming, the network ordered an additional seven episodes. Viewership continued to fall and NBC cut back their additional order to five installments. The last one aired on April 26th.
Though NBC has a lot of slots to fill on the 2010-11 schedule, Trauma’s ratings were just too low to pay for a second season. It’s been cancelled after 18 episodes.
Though devoted fans may mourn the series’ demise, a consolation might be that they got five more episodes than the ratings realistically warranted.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Trauma won’t be back next season? Any thoughts on how you would have wrapped up the series?

I think, as a viewer from Holland, it’s a shame that you guys put Trauma off the television! Trauma gives a realistic view on how the medics work, okay ofcourse some things are too close on eithother and that might not seems to be realistic but the idea is that these things DO happen in real life. The worst part of not sending out a season 2.. is that the ending of season 1 is just not how you have to finish a season finale. and especially not the Finale of the whole serie! How do we have to get… Read more »
I was terribly disappointed when Trauma was cancelled..The show was fantastic every week and my husband and I looked forward to watching it every Monday. I didn’t realize it was cancelled (again)…I thought they were making additional episodes. Please bring it back!!!
I first watched Trauma while I was on shift as for I am a Paramedic in Tennessee. I was so outraged at the way we as professionals were portrayed. I refused to watch Trauma EVER AGAIN!!! I had read some EMS news and others had the same opinion as I did, letters were written and the content of the show improved. So I bit the bullet and watched it again. I could relate to almost every character in one way or the other after this point I looked forward to watching Trauma with my wife on Monday nights. My wife… Read more »
sorry to see Trauma go; enjoyed it every week.
What a shame! Trauma IS the best show on TV, without a doubt. Did anyone realize that the show was up against the NFL? How could the ladies of the house get the opportunity to watch the show? Also, once my husband sat down to watch the show after football season he loved it. Give the show a chance. The characters are awesome and the first 5 minutes alone are the attention grabber. The network is making a bad decision with this one. There are many shows I could list that should be on the chopping block that include terrible… Read more »
I really enjoyed Trauma, and was surprised to hear that it was canceled. I don’t normally check websites for the status of TV shows. I guess I just expect the network to tell me that I’m watching the last episode. But, thanks to this site, I now know that one of my favorites is canceled. By the way, I’m in the 18-49 demographic. Thanks for listening.
TRAUMA HAD BECOME ONE OF MY FAVORITE SHOWS. I AM SORRY IT WAS CANCELED. I LOOKED FORWARD TO MONDAY NIGHTS AND WAS DISAPPOINTED THE FIRST TIME IT WAS CANCELED. I HAVE TO AGREE NBC IS MAKING A BIG MISTAKE AND WILL REGRET IT!
Best show out of the States in years, great character growth and interaction, ahh well less TV has got to be good for the brain cells.
I loved the show trauma!!!!! I am a paramedic and this was exactly the kinda show ppl in the field like me wanted! Firfighters have rescue me and nurses and doctors had er! Which I loved but that’s gone and we looked forward to watching trauma every shift we worked! Please bring it back! It was a great show!!!!!!!
I enjoyed the show and looked forward to watching it every week!!!!
To TC, I am sorry for your loss of your co-workers, and I respect everyone in this field. I have a sister who is in the police department, and I see what everyone in the police force, EMS and others can go through. The only thing I disagree with your statement is that this is a television show, meant for entertainment. If anyone thought this show was reality, then they have a problem themselves in knowing the difference in what is reality and what is fiction.
You guys are making the biggest mistake ever! not putting truama back on!
Trauma was probably our favorite, must-watch show. I lovedhow they developed the characters, particularly Rabbit, but each of the characters. Anyone who could see the show would have been smitten. Looked at the comments above, I agree that it’s demise may have been the time spot. Has anyone noticed how other shows, even House, seemed to mimic the story line. Come back Trauma before the actors are picked up for other shows.
that is to bad… trauma was one of the better shows on tv and based in my city..
i always looked forward to each episode…
Trauma was one of the best new shows–great cast with great chemistry, well-developed characters, lots of action. Why people would choose a reality show (which are over-edited, predictable, and trivial) over a show like Trauma is a mystery to me.
