Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

This is one of he best shows we’ve seen in a long time. Kept watching for the new season to start & was very disappointed this morning to find out it was cancelled.
I also love this show! I look forward to coming home and watching it at night after a long day at work. It is a show that shows the real life of us hard workers. It may be a little dramatic but at least its not those stupid reality shows that are suppose to be funny. When does it start back up again to finish out the rest of the episodes?
I loved Trauma it was one of the few good shows on tv
Why do they always cancel the good shows? I am a nurse and I loved this show. I love Mercy too so that better not end up on the chopping block. Now that Leno is cancelled put Trauma in that slot. Whoever makes these decisions should be fired!! Please bring Trauma back.
This was one of the best shows that NBC had brought onto TV in while. My family loved watching. If we could not stay up till 9 to watch the DVR was set to record but we would still watch as a family. We are so tired of watching the realality shows. Please re-think your decision.
Are you fricken kidding me! It seems that the networks cancel all the good shows! back to DVD’s.
I am so sad this show is cancelled. It was like my new E.R. I loved it. I like “Mercy” too. Where have all the dramas gone? Biggest Loser is the only reality show that I like, so I wouldn’t mind losing other reality shows, but when they have already taken the 9pm time slot away from dramas for Jay Leno, I can’t believe they are taking away more. They canned “Medium” last year too, but I have followed that to CBS. Where do they get their stats? They keep getting rid of the shows I like. How come I… Read more »
I liked Trauma I wonder if the execs there are young ones it seems now days the young people don’t want to give anything a chance unless it suits them or they don’t give a damn what anybody else thinks and in this case I think that maybe true I hope you people reconsider bringing Trauma back on please. And I have seen a lot of e-mails saying that they don’t like reality shows at all and I am one of them to besides these shows have gotten people in trouble with the law and that ain’t good at all!!
Very upset that Trauma has been canceled. This was actually the fist show that i wanted to watch all seasons with out missing one. Unfortunately… it wasn’t too hard to do with only one season. Reality shows, in my opinion, are all the same and just….dumb. I would rather watch something that someone with talent wrote and with talented actors as well.
I have been a Paramedic for more that 10 years, and while I enjoyed watching Trauma…..it was a little farfetched. The actors and actresses will hopefully find other work. I do agree with another post though, I think they should have left Trauma on the air and cancelled one or more or all of those stupid reality shows.
OK everyone, maybe it’s time we put our thoughts and what we want into action. Does anyone know how to actually send direct mail to the Idiot’s in the suit’s and the Network?
I am sure that would have a much more powerful effect on them. Maybe all of us send them a bunch of peanuts with a letter telling them what WE the viewer’s want/demand.
Any thoughts?
In a time when reality shows are dominating the tv and cable airwaves….we get another credible show like TRAUMA! My wife and I watched the powerful premiere of the show and faithfully raced home each Monday night to see it. Like the defunct show THIRD WATCH….which sent me into counseling over its cancellation…TRAUMA was the closest of reality shows on television. High octane action, love and drama and an underwritten message each week made me proud to be a volunteer firefighter/EMS with Fairfax County Fire and Rescue. Shows that need to be canceled like THE BIGGEST LOSER and THE SING… Read more »
I cannot believe they cancelled it. It was one of the best of the new shows. Way better than Mercy or Three Rivers. I am very sad.
So upset!!!! I loved Trauma. It and Mercy were the only new shows I was watching regularly. Bring Trauma back!!!!
Another reason to stick with sports channels only. This was a great show, one I grew to enjoy and look forward to (finally). Reality shows are what need to go.
BYE BYE NBC… no more for me!
