Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I loved Trauma, and I usually don’t like “medical type” shows. This show was great. I’m not surprised, though. It is true that the networks always pull the good stuff and keep the crap. Once Trauma is gone, I won’t have any reason to watch NBC.
I love Trauma! I am so disappointed that the show will be airing it’s last episode on April 26th. I agree with everyone else, how can they cancel the good shows and put on the cruddy ones it the place. NBC really has to give these shows a chance before they cancel them so quick!!
They don’t give shows a chance anymore. It’s ridiculous! This is a great show!
Please keep TRAUMA. My whole family loves it and we watch it together. That in itself is rare. I think the dynamics are great and the photography is exceptional. Why would a network drop one of the best Medical shows on the air. P.S. I don’t watch Mercy, it was too corny, slow and unappealing. That is my input, have a great day.
It’s a shame that this show will be cancelled. This is a great show, particularly Derek Luke – one of the reasons the show is so entertaining. Very few roles where the actors are demonstrating the type of situations encountered. The story line is far more engaging than these reality shows. There are few shows that I watch faithfully, and this is one of them. I do hope the network will reconsider.
I LOVE TRAUMA!! I agree — get a good show and they cancel it!!
What the heck!?! Trauma is a great show and why would you cancel that?
I’m so disappointed. Seems like the best shows get cancelled and we’re left with rubbish… No wonder Trauma is the ONLY show I watched on NBC…
LOVE Trauma its the only show i watch on tv other than the today show Lets keep it!! they get rid of everything good.
ya they take all the good shows off no wonder we just rent videos and screw the networks…I am 58 yrs old and want to watch “THe Unit. and Trama” baby boomes should unite and say we just not gonna take it any more from these Gay wimpy Dancing with the Stars, and Ameicon Idol crap
no kidding this show is great i definatly dont want to see this show go away
typical!!!!……get a great show ,and then cancel it. axe some of the other toot and rubbish instead and leave the good shows alone. trauma ROCKS!
i really loved the show trauma i was disappointed when it was cancelled. they NEED to bring it back! comment if you agree ha ha.
If they cancel Trauma what will replace it a reality or game show? None of those that are on now aren’t very good. Everybody is complaining that trauma isn’t a good show…. If your not watching it how do you know? Watch something else & quit complaining. We want Trauma to stay on!!
So sad to see Trauma go. I love it!…….I HATE MERCY CANCEL THAT CRAP!!!
@Jen: If it makes you feel any better, Mercy’s not likely to be renewed either.
