Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I really love this show. I am an EMT and this is one the medical shows that shows a lot of reality. This show needs to stay
Another absurd decision by NBC. Trauma is clearly superior to Miami Whatever.
Memo to DirecTV: Like Fri Night Nights, here’s one you can subsidize & keep on the air.
very upset this is a great show come on someone pick it up
I am sooo very upset that this show has been cancelled. At the very least let them end it the right way!
I am so disgusted! Our favorite show is being cancelled before it has had a chance to be seen by those that would really like it?? It’s because of Jay Leno’s show, isn’t it?? Please, change your mind… give Trauma a chance! It’s a terrific show! Written and acted wonderfully!!
My partner & I truly enjoy this show. Having work experience in EMS & Police this show captures the ups, downs, bizarre; everything an adrenaline junkie needs. Please someone pick this show up. The Rabbit must not die.
Trauma has great supence and is highly unpredictable, unlike most of the who-done-its on TV right now. Please bring it back!
I feel the same as my partner. It’s such a good strong show. Surely it must have been poorly advertised. I can’t think of another reason, as the show itself is so strong. Perhaps it needs new packaging. The show sells itself. I’m addicted. I downloaded the whole of Season 1 from iTunes (I missed it on air – I didn’t even know about it!) and I only have two episodes left. I had a marathon today. Really – it’s a great show. It makes me want to be a medic. Actually, I’m sitting the EMT course!
dont cancel it!
I loved Trauma had lots of personality and interaction and Mercy has no personality, bad interaction and stereotyping.
I really hope that they decide to keep Trauma on air. I thought the show was great. My wife and I were huge fans of this show, we didn’t miss an episode. I’m really hoping that this show gets picked up by another network. It shows great promise. Good actor/actresses, interaction, plot, suspense, action, drama, comedy. Not many shows have that all in one. Not to mention it’s a shame they would just let the show cancel like this with no closure at all.
NBC always gets it wron just like conan now Trauma whats next?
I don’t watch much else besides news, discovery, history channel and TRAUMA! I can’t believe they’re canceling that show. I couldn;t wait to watch it when i got back from the gym. So dissapointed right now! : (
Another good series bites the dust, and why? because the ratings were lower than expected by numb skulls who think it should have a high rating in a time slot that puts it up against the #1 show the past six years, Dancing With The Stars. Why not give it another chance on a different night. Trauma was a solid show and the characters were starting to develop into likeable characters. The show had believable storylines and circumstances. C’mon NBC, give this show another chance on a another day…..like Friday night.
This was the best show on TV as far as I am concerned and the only one that I watched.. I am absolutely devastated that it isn’t returning. You never knew what the big incident was going to be and that was awesome. Unlike many other medical shows, this show did it right. Being in the emergency medicine field, I have seen a lot of medical dramas handle their situations completely wrong. I will miss having Rabbit in my living room every Monday night. Please reconsider this one.
