Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I loved this show!!! PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!!!!!!
I am so disappointed that this series is discontinued. I loved it! I really like Cliff Curtis. Bring it back!
I recently watch all of the trauma episodes on by dvr. I couldn’t stop. One after the other they were GREAT! Keep the show PLEASE.
They never really give the show a chance. It is a great show and if Monday Night’s are not working then change the nights not cancelled the show. I story line was great the cast was great and It was just as good as Third Watch.. NBC axes good shows, no wonder the network is so bad.
this sucks big time, my husband and I love this show. BRING IT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After 9/11 a show like Trauma is owed to the men and women of the fire/EMS service! I am a EMT-I/FF-II, and loved the show! I don’t think the show was advertised enough to let people know what kind of show it was or what it could have been. Taking this show off the air is a “low blow” for me and my unit, as we all could relate to the show and the life of the “Medics” on the show. After not getting along for years and always finding it hard to find things in common to do for… Read more »
As a 30 year EMS provider and currently in Helicopter EMS, I am so glad to see this piece of drivel pulled from the air waves. The poor example it sets for new providers is frightening. The absolute lack of compassion by the producers to show a helicopter crash for the first show the week of the anniversary of one of the worst HEMS disasters – two helicopters hit over Flagstaff AZ killing 6 people – was telling. The fact that all the current tech advisers left within the first three weeks showed that the producers weren’t interested in anything… Read more »
FINALLY AN INTELLIGENT VOICE!!
I THINK THE NETWORK HAS MADE A BIG MISTAKE TAKING THE SERIES TRAUMA OFF THE AIR……IT ABSOLUTELY WAS ONE OF THE BETTER SHOWS, NEVER BORING, VERY EXCITING, GOOD ACTORS, WHAT MORE COULD SOMEONE ASK FOR……BRING IT BACK……..GIVE IT A CHANCE.
Well to start off I am an EMT-B and I live the life of the show I work for a company as an EMT-B and I volunteer as one also, I cant belive you would do such a thing as to cancel it you are so bad to do so !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bring it back PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The show is great and the cast is too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The health care field is one of only a few that is still hiring despite the economy.
Jobs in health care will continue to rise in accordance with the “sick” decline in the economy. Keep up the good work!
I am so bummed that Trauma was cancelled. It is far superior to Mercy and is such a great show. What a bad decision by NBC!!
I am very upset the show has been cancelled. i really enjoyed it
I am very very disappointed. I thought that it was one of the better shows.
I was hooked on Trauma from the first episode, pity my name isn’t Nielsen. I watched Mercy for about five episodes to give it a fair chance, but there was just too much soap for my stomach. Trauma was one of the main shows I watched on NBC. Maybe I should just give up on that network altogether? It is understandable that people who’ve never watched the show might think, “gee, who needs another dumb hospital show.” But, this is NOT just another dumb hospital show. How people could watch a couple episodes and not get hooked on excellent writing,… Read more »
