Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I think it is a big mistake cancellng Trauma, people in my community including me love the show. We used to have poker night but we stopped because it was the same day as Trauma….BIG MISTAKE!!!
I know we use to have poker night then as the weather warms, we do cook outs. So we would have the famous cook out and everyone would set around and watch Trauma, after all the women loved Rabbit, and the men love the action. The Pilot show the guys played the crash in slow motion so many times I finally had to hit my husband in the head with a pillow to reset him. All joking aside what does NBC have to offer now? They canceled Southland which was a great cop show, TNT picked it up and it… Read more »
Hey NBC why do you not listen to your viewers? We want Trauma back for season two, we do not want another spin off of another show we want something different. I personally do not want to watch a bunch of doctors having sex and relationship problems after all you could just watch Greys Anatomy. I could for the first time sit down with my husband and son and we could all three agree on a show please rethink your mistake. I do not think you honestly have that many more mistakes you can afford to make when it comes… Read more »
It seem to me that Ch 4 can not keep any thing 1st they done away with “my own worse enemy” then Heroes and now Trauma I am not liking CH4 right now
If everyone is still interested in saving this show, I recommend sending a letter to Fox or TNT network. After all NBC canceled Southland stating it had horrible ratings and no season two would happen. TNT picked it up and stated it would only re-air the first season and no season two would happen. However the ratings went up and now their will be a season two. So I figuired that if Fox or TNT or another Network picked up Trauma then it would have a real chance just not a fill in for the failure they covered Leno. I… Read more »
I love this series. It has great characters and story lines. I am disappointed that it was not given another season to prove itself. I believe Trauma would have come through, with better ratings, if given more time. Another good show bites the dust, so sad.
I feel the same way Linda, I sent a letter to the head of programming of Fox Network and copied NBC maybe if you did the same they would pay more attention. Also the advertisers that placed ads on Trauma would also take into account that a lot of people like this show. I know I have received a Hugh amount of emails that a lot of fan stopped watching because they thought it was already canceled, or they did not want to watch the fight between Leno and O’Brien. I think the show has so many ways it can… Read more »
I love Trauma! They can’t cancel it! It’s one of the best shows on TV.
I am so sorry that Trauma will not be coming back. I really enjoyed the show & the “crew”. They did an outstanding job every week.
I think it is a big mistake to cancel this series, I was very upset to learn that NBC could not give Trauma another chance. Trauma was just as good as ER or Greys Anatomy in my oppinion. It was differant and fresh. You sometimes have to give a show a second seasson to see how it will really take. I DVRed that show every week it was on and I still watch them, I really hope that they bring this show back and give it another chance.
If you wish to save this show please send emails to Fox asking them to pick up Trauma, who needs NBC when there are so many wonderful networks that make hit shows everyday. If you prefer TNT also has a website that you can email and make suggestions and even ask for them to pick up Trauma. Here is the info for Fox Put to attention : Ms. Gail Berman, President askfox@fox.com The more email’s the more of a chance that either NBC decides that they wish to keep and give Trauma another chance or maybe better Fox or TNT… Read more »
Trauma was one of the most entertaining shows I’ve seen in a long time. For someone who usually does not watch KPRC, Trauma brought me to this channel. My son was not a TV watcher, I introduced him to Trauma and he was hooked. I have nine episodes recorded and go back to them from time to time. I think it is a big mistake to cancel this series.
I am sad that NBC could not give Trauma another chance, as they have done for other shopws in the past. How could the show gain an audience, when it was pulled of for two or three months and everyone started watching something else. It seems that there are good shows that come on and they are jerked off the air and then you have stupid shows like My Name is Earl!.
I am trying to reach as many people as I can, I have found that if you write to other networks sometimes they will pick a canceled show up from another network. TNT saved Southland from being removed from TV. Southland aired on NBC and was canceled, due to ratings TNT said they would not purchase any more shows. However they did air the first season again and now their is going to be a second season. So we are sending emails writing letters sending them to other networks such as TNT, FOX, CBS someone has to notice this show… Read more »
Trauma airs in UK on the Virgin network. Brilliant show and I shall be gutted if it’s true there are plans to cancel it. With the closure of ER I really hoped we were in for a prolonged treat watching a series that is really good.
I agree with you so much, I know I have sent letters to TNT, Fox Networks asking them to pick Trauma up. I know last year TNT picked up Southland that NBC canceled and it was said that they were only going to rerun the first season with no second, however now it has been made public that TNT will be making a second season of Southland. So I hope they will reach out and give Trauma the same chance as they did Southland. I only hope in the future that writers will stop sending great shows to NBC, because… Read more »
Please bring back this show I loved it. It had so much action and it seemed so real. I loved the characters there was so much chemistry with all of them. I don’t know what the big wigs are thinking, but maybe they can think of ther viewers for a change.
I THINK IT WAS A VERY BIG MISTAKE TO CANCEL TRAUMA, BECAUSE IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST MEDICAL SHOWS ON THE AIR!!! NBC NEEDS TO BRING IT BACK!! !!!! I USED TO WORK IN THE MEDICAL PROFESSION AND IN FACT I AM FINISHING MY MEDICAL DEGREE THIS SUMMER TO BE A PARAMEDIC, AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!! PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!!
