TV show description:
This dramatic series follows the story of an unassuming American family that’s drawn into the inner workings of a turbulent Middle Eastern nation.
Bassam “Barry” Al-Fayeed (Adam Rayner) is the youngest son of a war-torn country’s controversial dictator. He returns to his homeland for his nephew’s wedding after a self-imposed 20-year exile in America. Upon his return, Barry is immediately thrown back into the familial and national politics of his youth.
He braces himself to confront the stark realities of his father and older brother Jamal’s (Ashraf Barhom) harsh rule, and finds himself at odds with Jamal’s wife, Leila (Moran Atias). She believes strongly in a firm, unforgiving regime.
Although Barry’s wife Molly (Jennifer Finnigan) struggles to comprehend her husband’s apprehension, Barry is unable and unwilling to make his all-American family understand his unease over returning home.
Emma (Anne Winters), their 17-year-old daughter, adores her father and shares his disdain for the extravagances of her extended family. Meanwhile, their son, 16-year-old Sammy (Noah Silver), revels in the lavish lifestyle that their “royal” status brings. He also dangerously tests cultural divides with his poorly disguised interest in the family’s handsome bodyguard, Abdul (Mehdi Dehbi).
Barry’s only warm memory of his childhood — his boyhood friend Fauzi (Fares Fares) — wants nothing to do with him. Fauzi is now a journalist, whose reports on the abuses of the Al-Fayeed rule resulted in his arrest and torture.
Now, Barry must now confront the life he once fled. With his father’s health in decline, everyone — Jamal, their mother Amira (Alice Krige), their father’s top advisor Yussef (Salim Daw), and even easygoing US diplomat John Tucker (Justin Kirk) — expects him to assume a more active role in both the family and the regime.
Episode #32 — Two Graves
Barry and Molly are on the brink of waging war on the Caliphate. Leila makes a bold political move and braves the possibility of a close betrayal. Barry and Daliyah face a final reckoning in their relationship. The conflict in Abuddin threatens to turn into a bloody civil war.
First aired: September 7, 2016.
What do you think? Do you like the Tyrant TV series? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourthseason?
I love the show. Renew….renew
I was surprised to see a return for a third season, but I was glad for the wrap up of the show. Glad to see Adam Raynor on Notorious; they may have cleaned him up but those eyes are unmistakable–so catch him as the new D.A.
I am furious that this show has been cancelled, plus there was no closure to what would happen to Dalia and Bassam “Barry”. Many of the networks have cancelled great shows and left us hanging with no closure. Strain is another one that is being cancelled on FX and now I am boycotting this network. This show dealt with real/life issues going on in the Middle East but it seems like more people are concerned about reality shows or dumb-downed comedies than down to earth good drama. I have started to watch more shows on PBS than other networks lately… Read more »
Seen Versailles yet? Got behind at Olympics on network and HBO trying to catch up.
I love the shows on PBS they are totally awesome and quite interesting. I loved Dowton Abby and was sad to see it go after 6 seasons. However Mercy Street is really good. It is about the Civil War. And I really enjoy anything about the Civil War. There are so many interesting places to visit and so many battlefields to go to my favorite being Shiloh down in West Tennessee.
one of my favourite shows – can not believe it is cancelled
so so shocked this was cancelled. great show, love dalia.
Ditto Ditto Ditto, at the top of the Best shows (ever!) on TV. Top screen writers. Great actors. Well directed and produced. Controversial, certainly, but a blink at realism and fiction at its best! ARE YOU GUYS CRAZY?!; for canceling it?!!! Were you threatened, was something said that got your pants dirty? What happened to the strength that put it on the air in the first place?!
I just discovered this show. And was really enjoying it. It was unlike anything else on television. Gave me a good glimpse into middle eastern life and culture. Very very disappointed Fx canceled this. Please bring it back.
I can’t believe they have cancelled this TV series. It was one of the best. Please think again FX.
This show was wonderful and should be renewed. The acting was superb as well as the story line. I hope it is renewed for another season
It is wrong to abandon a series when there are so many outcomes hanging in the balance
I am shocked to hear that this show has been cancelled. If there is any chance that this show can be saved I hope that it can happen.
I can’t believe this show was cancelled and right when it was getting so good. In total disappointment.
I can’t believe that I went on vacation and came home puzzled as to why my DVR didn’t record the next episode only to find out the series was cancelled.
Great show, incredible acting, and one of the only network programs I have watched in the past 10 years. I feel totally cheated that there was no closure for the dedicated followers before ending the series. Total screw job.
renew, renew, renew, you have a series that reflects somewhat life is in a third world country. The actors do a great job and we need more series like this. Another network will come out with something similar and I’ll be watching them instead of FX. You have a show that no other network has why blow it now. If General Hospital can be on for 40+ years surely Tyant can make it.
I cannot believe that after following this show all this time and it ends this way. Not even a final episode? I will never watch FX again!
