It looks like Unforgettable is joining Reckless on the casualty list this week. CBS has decided to cancel Unforgettable (for the second time) after three seasons on the air.
Unforgettable follows Carrie Wells (Poppy Montgomery), a police detective who has hyperthymesia — a rare medical condition that gives her the ability to visually remember everything. Unfortunately, the one thing she can’t remember is what happened on the day her sister was killed. The show’s cast also includes Dallas Roberts, Dylan Walsh, Tawny Cypress, James Hiroyuki Liao, and Jane Curtin.
The series debuted on CBS in the fall of 2011 and the first season averaged a 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 11.3 million viewers. That wasn’t good enough for the network and they cancelled it in May 2012.
Sony Pictures TV (which co-produces with CBS TV Studios) shopped the series to other outlets like TNT and Lifetime. Ultimately, CBS ended up reversing their cancellation to pick it up for a second season of 13 episodes for a Summer 2013 run. They later renewed it for season three and another summer run.
There’s no denying that the numbers have been inching downward. The second season averaged a 1.0 rating with 7.06 million and the third, which wrapped a month ago, averaged a 0.9 rating with 6.09 million.
Talks had reportedly been underway for a fourth season order but, for whatever reason, that’s not happening on CBS.
There are currently 48 episodes of Unforgettable — not enough for a syndication package. However, Sony TV has a history of finding a way to keep shows alive. Though there’s been no word of efforts to find another home for the show yet, the studio has incentive to get more episodes produced for a syndication package.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Unforgettable has been cancelled again? Would you watch a fourth season on another channel?
I’m so sad they cancelled! One og the best TV Shows I’ve ever watched! I hate that I don’t get to know how it all ends…
I was so happy when. Unforgettable came back but only saw a few shows then couldn’t find it anymore, I think it moved to Bravo then disappeared again. Very sad. Why is it the good shows end yet one stupid reality show after another stay on air? What is that telling us of the TV viewers IQ. Bring unforgettable back, someone!
Finding a new home for “U” is turning out to be a tough sell. The owner has submitted to many networks. So far, no interest. We can always hope.
I am disappointed that Unforgettable gas been canceled and hope that another network will take it on. It is one of my favorite shows.
I hope “Unforgettable” gets a new home, but given that it has been submitted to multiple networks, with no success, and now it is January, the chances are getting slimmer.
Oh, I am so sorry to hear that the show has been cancelled, one of the better tv-series. Even here in Denmart, Europe we love the tv-show. So please please bring it back!
There are many of us Americans who are upset “Unforgettable” got canceled, too. The show’s owner has been trying to get another network to broadcast new episodes, but so far without success. The economics involved (in producing a tv series) are complex, and many networks would rather create a “new” tv series, rather than buy an older series and do new episodes. In the meantime, the show’s actors are looking for new work. If they find new work, and “Unforgettable” does get a new network, then there will be a scheduling problem. I would not say that “Unforgettable” is now… Read more »
I really enjoyed the show and the cast, watching her remember menial things made for a great show, I also would follow the show no matter which network picked it up
I am greatly disappointed that there is no 4 season of Unforgettable. I am so tired of the same old thing on t.v. and Unforgettable was special…Please return it
Sony Pictures submitted “U” to several networks, but so far there has been no interest. A shame.
I would watch it. I don’t care what station its on. Just bring it back. PLEASE! It’s such a good show!
I really liked Unforgetable. I would watch it on any station. It was something different from other detective shows. I liked seeing Poppy again. Please bring it back.
Sony Pictures TV is trying to find another network, but right now, not looking good. Let’s keep hope, though.
This was one of the better TV police dramas – I sure hope that it will appear on some network in 2015.
Many of us hope so, too. Right now not looking so good, but we will keep hoping.
One of my favorite shows, I’ve watched all the episodes. it’s an amazing show! Why do they cancel good shows and renew some really bad ones?
It all comes down to ratings, income generated, costs, and profit. With “Unforgettable,” CBS owned only half the series–which affected its profitability. Sony Pictures TV (the other half-owner) is trying to find a new network for the series. Thanks.
Those morons always cancel good shows and then give us crap like honey boo boo!
Hahaha! So true.
lol Very true!
This is my favorite policy show, I watch it every week.
Last week, the last show was on tv (rtl4, the netherlands).
I hope there will be a next season.
We are trying to have another network run new “Unforgettable” episodes. And hoping. Thanks.
I hoping someone picks this show up. It’s lik no other police show on the air.
Right now not looking so good, but let’s hope.
i loved the show along with a group of 25 people.
Thought Poppy & Dylan had great chemistry and hope someone picks up this show. It was different than the other cop showsPLEASE BRING IT BACK
“Unforgettable” has been submitted to several networks, but so far “no bites.” Let’s keep hoping.
This is one of the better shows that I have enjoyed of late. I really hope it gets picked up. I don’t know why the TV networks always cancel the substantial shows and leave the shallow shows to run for years. I know ratings matter and all, but these TV networks should know that fans extend way beyond American borders. I say that as an African who loves good meaningful entertainment.
