It looks like Unforgettable is joining Reckless on the casualty list this week. CBS has decided to cancel Unforgettable (for the second time) after three seasons on the air.
Unforgettable follows Carrie Wells (Poppy Montgomery), a police detective who has hyperthymesia — a rare medical condition that gives her the ability to visually remember everything. Unfortunately, the one thing she can’t remember is what happened on the day her sister was killed. The show’s cast also includes Dallas Roberts, Dylan Walsh, Tawny Cypress, James Hiroyuki Liao, and Jane Curtin.
The series debuted on CBS in the fall of 2011 and the first season averaged a 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 11.3 million viewers. That wasn’t good enough for the network and they cancelled it in May 2012.
Sony Pictures TV (which co-produces with CBS TV Studios) shopped the series to other outlets like TNT and Lifetime. Ultimately, CBS ended up reversing their cancellation to pick it up for a second season of 13 episodes for a Summer 2013 run. They later renewed it for season three and another summer run.
There’s no denying that the numbers have been inching downward. The second season averaged a 1.0 rating with 7.06 million and the third, which wrapped a month ago, averaged a 0.9 rating with 6.09 million.
Talks had reportedly been underway for a fourth season order but, for whatever reason, that’s not happening on CBS.
There are currently 48 episodes of Unforgettable — not enough for a syndication package. However, Sony TV has a history of finding a way to keep shows alive. Though there’s been no word of efforts to find another home for the show yet, the studio has incentive to get more episodes produced for a syndication package.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Unforgettable has been cancelled again? Would you watch a fourth season on another channel?
I hope we get to see a season 4.
I am assuming you did not know “U” is returning–hopefully late this summer, on A&E. Poppy and Dylan are returning (although two others will not be returning).
If they are cancelling it I just wish they would do series finale show and tie up the loose ends
I guess you are unaware. “Unforgettable” has been picked up by A&E Network. Good news!
Hopefully new episodes will appear in late summer.
I liked Unforgettable almost as much as Stalker. Why not submit online people’s likes and dislikes. It amazes me how some of these shows make the cut!! If CBS keeps pulling these good shows, I won’t be watching it anymore. Please listen to the public not numbers! Jill
Understand your comment, but it comes down to profit-and-loss. “Unforgettable” was not making enough profit for CBS, but at least Sony was able to “shop it” to A&E, who bought it, and the series will likely return this summer. “Stalker” was a different problem, and so Warner will have a hard time (if CBS likely cancels the series).
I loved the show. Please consider bringing it back. Thanks
Maybe you haven’t heard. “U” is coming back. A&E network picked it up. Hopefully for summer 2015, but date has not yet been confirmed.
Love this show. But not surprised they again cancelled it. If they would just leave the show on a set time and date than others can find it.
Hope someone with sense really does pick this up again.
Are you aware the “U” is moving to A&E network?
I loved the show. I’ve told many people about it who had never heard of it and when they watched it they liked it. Please do a season 4. There are still many of us who enjoy a good story.
Season 4 is on A&E. Be on the lookout. Hopefully summer 2015.
I love this show, i would watch it on any channel… Please bring it back….
Perhaps you had not heard. A&E network will broadcast season 4 of “U.” Although production has not yet started, they are hoping to broadcast summer episodes. We are all delighted.
Hope they reconsider and bring the show back. This show was very unique and I loved the interaction between Poppy Montgomery and Dylan Walsh. Please, please bring it back another season.
Maybe you were not aware. A&E network picked-up “U.” Production has not yet started. But great news.
Loved this show. The scripts were well written and the character inter action is what made the show so interesting, just like NCIS when Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly interacted. Bring it back for another season. The third season was the best. What did the network expect when they ran it for such a short time. The network was the problem, not the show.
You may not have heard. A&E picked up ‘U.’ Production not yet started; no air date set.
Love this show! Should definitely be renewed for a fourth season!!
i would love for there to be a season 4. I want to know what will happen next. please keep the show we will all miss it if you don’t.
I guess you are not aware that “Unforgettable” is moving to A&E network. It was only announced recently. No start date announced yet.
Yes! Please keep the show on TV. We love it! Poppy Montgomery is fantastic at her part. They all are! It’s a very interesting and great show. Thank you for it!
Hope is fading fast. There has been no interest by other networks. The marketplace is crowded, and a few series that probably should have not been canceled have ended.
Sony is making a deal with A&E http://wp.me/pcisc-9fB
(If the report is true) this is terrific news. I will contact Sony Pictures tv, to find out details, and to thank them. When Dylan Walsh had taken another acting gig, even I was starting to give up hope. Never give up hope.
How abt a fourth season. Love that show.
Would love to see another season. Get tired of shows that are good and they they are cancelled.
Would love a 4th season, actors and story lines are great!
