It looks like Unforgettable is joining Reckless on the casualty list this week. CBS has decided to cancel Unforgettable (for the second time) after three seasons on the air.
Unforgettable follows Carrie Wells (Poppy Montgomery), a police detective who has hyperthymesia — a rare medical condition that gives her the ability to visually remember everything. Unfortunately, the one thing she can’t remember is what happened on the day her sister was killed. The show’s cast also includes Dallas Roberts, Dylan Walsh, Tawny Cypress, James Hiroyuki Liao, and Jane Curtin.
The series debuted on CBS in the fall of 2011 and the first season averaged a 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 11.3 million viewers. That wasn’t good enough for the network and they cancelled it in May 2012.
Sony Pictures TV (which co-produces with CBS TV Studios) shopped the series to other outlets like TNT and Lifetime. Ultimately, CBS ended up reversing their cancellation to pick it up for a second season of 13 episodes for a Summer 2013 run. They later renewed it for season three and another summer run.
There’s no denying that the numbers have been inching downward. The second season averaged a 1.0 rating with 7.06 million and the third, which wrapped a month ago, averaged a 0.9 rating with 6.09 million.
Talks had reportedly been underway for a fourth season order but, for whatever reason, that’s not happening on CBS.
There are currently 48 episodes of Unforgettable — not enough for a syndication package. However, Sony TV has a history of finding a way to keep shows alive. Though there’s been no word of efforts to find another home for the show yet, the studio has incentive to get more episodes produced for a syndication package.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Unforgettable has been cancelled again? Would you watch a fourth season on another channel?
just watched the 3 series over several months – can’t believe it is not popular enough for a 4th series
I’m not sure where you are writing from, but the series got a 4th season on A&E. If you’re in the US, reruns for the entire series are on startTV everyday, 7 days a week.
I love that show
Can’t believe it’s not coming on
Obviously, despite some comments saying it will be back, it seems very iffy. No news organizations are reporting it and maybe A&E will air reruns but I’ve seen nothing in any trade papers or even on A&E saying they are filming new episodes where do u get your info????
Very sad that you have once again decided to cancel Unforgettable. Looked forward to watching it every wekk.
Yes I would watch it again. Love Unforgettable. Looking forward to it every week. Very sad that it is being cancelled once again. Lynda MacKay
Yes, I would watch a 4th season of unforgettable staring Poppy Montgomery
Please keep it alive. They always take the good shows off.
It returns Nov 13 on A&E.
One of my husband’s favorite shows. Glad it will be back.
We love the show and are great, loyal fans. Excellent TV show, please ensure it continues. Thank you so much
Not sure what you mean by “please ensure.” The series is currently shooting new episodes, and I expect it will debut on A&E in August.
My husband & I love “Unforgettable” and REALLY want it to return on any channel!!!
Bring it back. I have been looking out for it since the end of season one. I would watch it on whatever channel it came back on. Unforgettable was one of the best things that I watch
Deborah, “U” returns on A&E, probably early August.
This was one of mine and my husband’s favorite shows! Why do the networks keep cancelling shows that appeal to other folks than teens?! We are the ones who pay the cable bills and our opinions should matter, but it seems as if they do not! There are very few good TV shows on these days, so guess we will just have to watch sports, etc.
You need to protest. I did. I went right to the owner (of the show). And, lo and behold, “Unforgettable” is returning, for season 4, to A&E. It was worth the effort.
I have really enjoyed the show, the show keeps me glued
to the tv just to see how they break down the crime
and capture the criminal. Give them a break
I guess you know that “U” is coming back, to A&E, date to be determined.
