It looks like the clock has run out on the Unforgettable TV show for real this time. A&E has cancelled the cop drama and won’t be ordering season five.
Unforgettable follows Carrie Wells (Poppy Montgomery), a police detective who has hyperthymesia — a rare medical condition that gives her the ability to visually remember everything. She works with Al Burns (Dylan Walsh) and other members of the Major Crimes team of the NYPD to track down the city’s most nefarious criminals. The rest of season four’s cast includes Alani Anthony, Kathy Najimy, and E.J. Bonilla.
The series began on CBS and was cancelled after one season but the network later reversed their decision. They renewed Unforgettable for a second season and later, for a third.
The network cancelled the show again in October 2014 but A&E revived the series five months later and ordered a fourth season of 13 episodes. They started airing in November and concluded in January, averaging a 0.12 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 740,000 viewers. Compared to season three’s ratings, these were down about 87%.
The ratings for Unforgettable were expected to be lower for its run on cable but it’s unlikely that A&E expected them to be that low. The cable channel ended up airing the final four episodes in one night, seemingly an attempt to just get rid of them.
Sony TV, which produces the series, isn’t expected to make any efforts to revive the series this time around. Cast contracts have reportedly already expired and some, Montgomery included, are considering new series pilots.
What do you think? Did you like the Unforgettable TV show? Did you watch on A&E? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fifth season?
Great Show! I’ve been watching since season one. Very disappointed. The Show could have easily gone the distance. At least 2 more seasons.
I really enjoyed Unforgettable and believed it should have been renewed. It was truly the only series worth watching on A&E (Art and Entertainment, right?).
I totally agree Denise. I always enjoyed Unforgettable. And, I’m not only disappointed they’re not renewing, I thought that was a terrible way to end the series. Totally uncalled for, in my opinion.
It should have been renewed or at least tie up the loose ends with a two hour movie. How can they end with Al shot after telling Carrie he loves her and Carrie getting ready to say she is willing to take a chance again and then Al is shot. Rhe show’s timeslot kept moving and it was not presented well by A&E.
I was excited to see new episodes of “Unforgettable” on A&E and now heartbroken to learn they’ve given-up on this unique program! 🙁
I am truly going to miss it because I’ve followed it from the very first episode and have fallen in love with each character! I did really miss Jane Curtain when A&E took “Unforgettable” over but having it back on was wonderful and it’s a program I always looked forward to watching! God bless you and thanks for the memories! 🙂
I love this show, please bring it back!
Please, please, please renew…this is my favorite program. I love all the actors and especially Poppy Montgomery. I am extremely upset. I’m sure whatever you replace it with will not even come close to being as awesome and will probably have lower ratings!
I am really disappointed that this has happened.. I love the series and again it ends with Al shot and not knowing what happens I am tired of networks doing this. To name a couple Dallas, Southland (great cop show). At least do a final show with all questions answered. Disappointed
This is absolutely absurd. Why cancel a show as good as unforgettable? Then to finish it like you did leaving us hanging. Why do so many shows just ended like this. Your fans are loyal so can’t you finish the story. TV corporations should think about finishing up a story line. The only show I can think of was “the mentalist” finished up the story line. Why can’t more TV shows have an ending?
I love Unforgettable. I think it should have another chance. I didn’t even know it had been picked up by A&E until after it started! How can you watch a show if you don’t know it’s there?! Maybe not enough advertising. I hate it when a show doesn’t have closure!!!!
We loved the show! It was engaging, intriguing and – up until the last couple of episodes — creatively portrayed. Carrie and Al’s relationship was fun to follow, and kept the viewers on their toes! Unfortunately I could tell something was wrong when the network a) shot their wad by cramming the last episodes into one night, and b) gave us trite, predictable, overdone scenes in those final ones. And really…..shooting Al in the heart for the closing, and not even having the integrity to get the blood spatter accurately portrayed. Seriously, have some integrity! If Unforgettable cannot return, I… Read more »
The last episode, oddly was much better in terms of writing, but it still has that lack luster, (cookie Cutter, flash back remember it all solve the case moment, or moments, as the case may be, the problem was not the subject matter, but the bland imagination of the writers, ( its sad really, you have mechanics that produce well timed dialog, from a network perspective its what they like, but its horrible for the viewer, )) I do think that the writers for the last episode, must have been high or they may have decided to “Stick it to… Read more »
I enjoyed the show Unforgettable a lot . I can not believe it ended with such a tragic and not knowing the outcome .
Did not get enough promotion, I was a fan of the show from CBS and happened to stumble upon it on A&E. It’s over I enjoyed the characters and the interesting concept, they got as much out of it as can be expected.
It’s a shame, this was a very interesting not a “typical” cop show like all the Law & Orders.. bad decision on the networks part. To be honest it was the reason I was watching A&E.. Such a loss..
I like the show Unforgettable. They should continue the show. Its great.
