Written by Bram Stoker, the story of Dracula has been around for nearly 120 years. There have been many adaptations and now, Syfy is trying a new twist that focuses on the daughter of Count Dracula’s nemesis, Abraham Van Helsing. Will this show last for many years or, will it be cancelled? Will it even be renewed for a second season? Stay tuned.
On Van Helsing, Vanessa “Van” Helsing (Kelly Overton) awakens from a long coma and finds that the world has been overtaken by vampires. A descendent of a lineage of warriors, she discovers that she has a unique blood composition that makes her not only immune to vampires, but she has the ability to turn a vampire human. With this secret weapon, Vanessa becomes a prime target for the vampires, while trying to save humanity. The rest of the cast includes Jonathan Scarfe, Christopher Heyerdahl, Paul Johansson, David Cubbit, Vincent Gale, and Tim Guinee.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.
10/14 update: Syfy has renewed Van Helsing for a second season of 13 episodes. Details here.

What do you think? Do you like the Van Helsing TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
I really like the show! Entertaining 🙂 I really think it’s great that they made it a female lead.
I actually quite enjoyed the show. Hope there is another season!!!!
Viewing figures have plummeted because the show is utterly terrible. It’s abysmally written and is so desperately trying to mirror other genre shows while failing to carve any kind of character of its own.
The characters are all awful, unlikable in the extreme, and Vanessa just makes the most ludicrous decisions that border on frankly baffling.
SyFy: if you want to have better ratings, you really need to hire better writers and stop stealing other shows’ ideas and MAKE YOUR OWN.
This show was great, better than aftermath .I was actually impressed , never knowing what to expect from syfy but there have been a few good shows the last couple years . What gets me is that people arent watching the best, smartest, well made shows and just wanting to watch crap! I thought they did a god job with this show and put in some effort . I pay a lot of attention to back ground stuff , and nit pick , and well………I like it . I consider myself picky about what I watch . My time is… Read more »
I turned on the show because of the Movie Van Helsing. Expecting something like it. But they decided to make it a chick flick for some reason with another show in dark buildings, no real action, post man kinds destruction etc etc etc. Not in the time period, no real abilities or action scenes. Lot of uninteresting dialog. Probably the PC version of how everything on tv has to be now. the tv show constantine was the same way. Nothing familiar about it. I wish them well and hope it goes well for the cast and crew. It’s not their… Read more »
The show has good moments, and bad ones, but I think it actually has been getting better in the more recent episodes. There really is much worse on tv, i know, I have likely watched it!
They wait until episode 9 and have the girl who is known for dating a lot of guys and the one playing Van Helsing who has a daughter. To all the sudden make them gay WTF if you were going to do that do it the beginning it makes no sense when the girl was just making out with a guy. This is why shows get cancelled you bounce all over the place. How much you want to bet the girl get’s killed and then all the sudden Van Helsing is not gay anymore and goes with the soldier ?… Read more »
Everything is not black or white. We are multidimensional beings. Most (all?) people have many sides, even sides we do not know ourselves yet. No-one knows how they’ll react in an emergency or crisis until it hits. These people are in an apocalypse.. Do you want predictable characters? About the women kissing… who said anyone was lesbian? Susan kissed Vanessa, and Vanessa very gently turned her down. That kiss doesn’t make anyone a lesbian. There is such a thing as bisexual, and many other “orientations”, we do not know which way any of the characters are… and why does it… Read more »
Is this show a parody of humanity or I’m drunk again?
it is another show that will finish below a 0.20 live average that SYFY has renewed. Failure is a success at SYFY.
I must apologize to all of you but this show has been renewed. I tried hard to get it cancelled but I failed so I apologize. I will leave all of you alone now. But I am so sorry that it was renewed.
You’re just going to leave? If you leave, who else besides me is going to tell the truth and get the clowns from NBC Universal who run this station Fired? I guess I grew up at the wrong time. At this network, FAILURE leads to promotions and raises. When I was younger, FAILURE got you fired, and in a hurry.
The show debuted on a Sunday with a 0.35, and that 0.35 may be what gets this show renewed. This show is headed for the average live ratings Dark Matter and Killjoys got in their second seasons. If this show heads into 12 Monkeys season 2 and Wynonna Earp season one territory in terms of ratings, SYFY may have to make a tough decision. How many shows does SYFY want to renew below a 0.20 average? How pathetic are they?
These ratings are incorrect. The first episode did indeed air on July 31st, right after Sharknado 4, but as a sneak preview. The series didn’t officially debut until August 23rd when SyFy aired both episodes 1 & 2. Those ratings, for each of those two hours, are the numbers that should be listed here, not the artificially high preview number which frankly skews the data unfairly.
Regardless of what Syfy wants to call it, the first episode aired on July 31. When the first episode aired on September 23, it was a rerun.
to slow of start.! again.!! what ever happened to starting a show with high action??
if the show can continue to do around a 0.35 per episode, there isn’t a chance it will be cancelled. This may be SYFY’s highest rated show this year.
Not that good. I thought this show would be great but it was very disappointing. The trailers made it look like “Walking Dead” but with Vampires. This was a huge let down. A huge step in the wrong direction SyFy. Big mistake.
Actually the second episode was pretty good. It’s hard to make a critic about a full show just based on one episode.
All of you who watch this show need to stop. This is too violent for TV and needs to be cancelled.
not you again.!! please greg go away.!!
They just renewed this show for a second season. Intelligence loses again.
Action and violence is part of tv. You have the right to turn the channel, or turn off the tv. And if you can not keep control of your minor children’s tv viewing habits. Its not other viewers problem. I like the show. It is not the best but seems to get better after the mid way point.
