TV show description:
Based on events in the life of Greg Poehler, this comedy TV show revolves around Bruce Evans (Poehler) and Emma Wiik (Josephine Bornebusch), seemingly the perfect couple. He’s a successful money manager to the stars in New York. He lives with Emma, the sweet woman from Sweden whom he loves and adores. A rare combination of intelligent, funny, kind and beautiful, Emma believes she has finally found her true soul mate in Bruce.
After being with him a year, she makes the life-changing decision to move back to her native Stockholm to accept a prestigious banking job. She’s surprised and thrilled that he agrees to move with her to begin a new life together.
With no job, friends or any real clue about what he is getting himself into, Bruce is quick to face many unique challenges and culture clashes. The most notable one is how to win over Emma’s strange and very Swedish family.
They move in with her parents — Viveka (Lena Olin) and Birger (Claes Månsson). Viveka is a therapist who dearly loves her family but has difficulty showing it — especially to Emma. She also takes an instant dislike Bruce. Birger is a retired sea captain and is a typical Swede — tall, kind and silent. He doesn’t speak much English which only adds to the communication barriers.
Emma’s younger brother is Gustav (Christopher Wagelin), a 28-year old mega-slacker who can do no wrong in his mother’s eyes. Birger’s younger brother is Bengt (Per Svensson), an American-adoring rockabilly type who seems to live his life through Hollywood movies.
Bruce’s parents are Wayne (Patrick Duffy) and Nancy (Illeana Douglas). Wayne is conservative by nature and resides in a small Midwestern town. Nancy wants nothing but the best for her son, but can’t comprehend his decision to leave his happy life in New York.
Episode #20 — Sexy Dancing/Bröllopet
After watching a viral video online, Emma wants to have the wedding party dance into the church, but a problem arises in rehearsal. Gustav introduces his girlfriend to the family. Guest stars: Rachel Mohlin, Per Svensson, Amy Poehler, and Aubrey Plaza.
First aired: June 3, 2015 (in Sweden).
What do you think? Do you like the Welcome to Sweden TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a third season?
It is too bad another network doesn’t pick it up.
I liked the show. I really wanted to see them get married. I wish they would have canceled it after the final episode so we could see what happened or at least let Amy do a final show for us and she can keep it running in Sweden. They could of let us have an ending before they pulled the plug. They could have given the show more time and it might have caught on. Hopefully, some day I can see the Swedish version and see how it ends.
I love this show. I will miss it very much.
Great show; different
This was a funny, well acted show, that is cancelled before it was given a fair chance in my opinion. I discovered season one only because of the internet. Not much on worth while this summer in the way of TV especially for NBC in my opinion. So the one show I liked gets axed. So where can I go on the internet to see the rest of season 2. Sounds like has been taped and played in Sweden.
I’m so glad to see this show back. and surprised too. It’s so funny. People are not the same all over, people are different all over, and the great script points this up. I hope they keep all the characters, they’re priceless.
I’m so glad this show is back. I really enjoy it so much!
I love this series. Please don’t cancel it!
I can’t believe this just aired in 2014. It seems like it skipped a season! I saw new episodes on my Tivo and thought maybe they had recycled some old episodes as new to fill a time slot. Nope, it’s back! This show is great. It’s funny, it’s dorky, and it shows that guess what? There are other ways of doing things aside from the American way. Who knew? Aside from the religion episode (ugh) it never goes too far at poking fun at both sides of the fence. I hope to see a third season. Hope the writers can… Read more »
Just watched the first two episodes of the new season tonight. They were shown back to back.
Love the fact that it’s filmed in Stockholm and of course the language in Swedish with English captions.
Just the mention of Gamla Stan tonight took me back there . . .
More . . . more . . . !

I truly enjoyed watching ‘Welcome to Sweden’ because it captured the heart of what it feels like to try to integrate oneself into another’s family, but is especially funny because of the culture barriers! The characters are terrific, and the story lines are hilarious.
I enjoyed watching Welcome to Sweden last Summer. What are the new show dates for Season 2? Thank you.
