What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the ABC television network, When Nature Calls with Helen Mirren is a documentary examination of the animal kingdom that looks at the lighter side of the natural world. Narrated by Mirren, the show features comedians putting words into the mouths of beautiful beasts, teeny-tiny frogs, beatboxing badgers, and more in beautiful footage from all over the world. Comedic scenarios include a field mouse who is killing it with NFTs, a divorced bear gym teacher whose students have heard gossip about his private life, a dragonfly movie star who can’t take direction, a beetle named Tony with anger management issues, a supermodel lemur, a thousand-year-old fairy fish trying to find someone who wants to make a wish, the new hit game show “Wolf or Rock”, and a crab who writes erotic fiction.
Season One Ratings
The first season of When Nature Calls averages a 0.25 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.86 million viewers in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). While these numbers don’t include further delayed or streaming viewing, they are a very good indicator of how a show is performing, especially when compared to others on the same channel. The show would be fine if you let out the stupid comedy nonsense. Why would you ruin a good nature show with that? Never watch it again!
Absolutely ridiculous how Helen Mirren could allow herself to be used this way is beyond me. Nature, wonderful, humor, great! This isn’t’ close to funny, just DUMB! The poor animals are being used! People, watch the planet and nature programs on Netflix, everybody has that these days!
I had never heard of the show until today (Jan 1, 2022). The scenery and animals are beautiful, but the (I’m not even sure what to call it) animals taking parts are just stupid and not funny.
So it doesn’t matter if it’s canceled or not, I won’t be watching it again.

Agree completely with AC from Philly! Could be so beautifully narrated by Ms. Mirren.
I love the animals, but the “jokes, voice-overs” were painfully unfunny. (It actually reminded me of early corny Bob Saget in America’s Funniest Videos in the early 1990s)
The only way to perhaps enjoy this is to put the TV on MUTE, maybe bring up a nice 1 hour instrumental track on YouTube.

I adore this show. Please don’t cancel it! Its important to keep a beautifully filmed doc that adds humor & fun to a serious plight for these animals! Its a different type of show, but will catch on. The first episode had me thinking, wtheck, but the next episodes were much better. Funnier, clever and beautiful. In reality, These animals are in trouble. So, any exposure that these endangered animals can get is a plus. To add comedy along with wildlife is brilliant.
When Nature Calls with Helen Mirren is delightfully funny for adults. There are a plethora of nature/ animal documentaries for the entire family and children of all ages to watch, in fact, other than this particular show, they are all PG. This particular nature program is unique with adult humor which is refreshing and different. I hope there is a Season 2 and those with kids who don’t want to watch it are free to find another nature documentary to watch since there isn’t any shortage of them.
This show should be canceled immediately! Tonight’s episode (7/22/21) was completely inappropriate for children under the age of 13.
I agree. I taped all these shows and thought it would be great for my daughter to watch. It is not funny. It is not educational and it is crude and inappropriate.

The show “when nature called” is fantastic. It’s educational, it’s funny, it’s beautifully photographed. It’s a show for all ages. Families can enjoy it together, us senior citizens can enjoy the wonderful show. It sure beats the violent, or serious dramas …. As we need a bit of cheer ! Please don’t cancel, pkease do not go to streaming….
We watched the first episode and it was painful. The best parts were indeed the scenery shots and the creatures. The narration and putting words in the animals’ mouths was terribly unfunny. We won’t be watching any more episodes. So disappointing.
The next episodes were better. It is a different show so ppl aren’t giving it a chance.
I will be angry if it’s canceled!!!! It’s cute, beautiful and funny ! Nothing on like this show ……KEEP IT ON .

I really enjoyed the whole program. The scenes. Were beautiful Helen. Was so funny. That takes Lot of work and. Skills to. Put words to each of those animals and insects and etc. I
