Although it is known for its gritty modern series, with its new Will TV show, TNT is dipping a toe into the period drama genre. Despite being set in 16th century London, the cable network has promoted its young Shakespeare series — with a modern soundtrack — as an edgy peek at the past, through a contemporary lens. Will today’s audience tune in for a new look at the Bard of Avon? Will Will be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.
The Will TV series stars Laurie Davidson as William Shakespeare. The TNT cast also includes Olivia DeJonge, Jamie Campbell Bower, Mattias Inwood, Ewen Bremner, Colm Meaney, William Houston, Lukas Rolfe, Max Bennett, and Jasmin Savoy Brown. At just 24 years of age, with no social or political advantages, Shakespeare is willing to risk everything in pursuit of his dreams. He dives headlong into the fast and treacherous world of Elizabethan theatre, trying to make it as a writer.

What do you think? Do you like the Will TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season on TNT?
9/5 update: Will has been cancelled; there will be no season two on TNT. Details here.
I am soooo upset that Will was cancelled. Especially ending with a (Top) cliff hanger! Cop shows, detective shows, housewives, reality, medical shows, home improvement shows, cookie cutter sitcoms, ad infinitum. Seriously, just one clone after another. And then along comes Will. Truly fresh, unique and such a cooooool concept with a stellar cast! Shakespeare done punk? Yes, please! (And I’m 60!) But then it’s stuck in a lousy time slot and you wonder why the ratings sucked. PLEASE give it another shot, perhaps at a better time on another day. Come on TNT, DARE TO BE DIFFERENT! And if… Read more »
Noooo! Please say WILL is not being cancelled. It was brilliant. I would buy every season!
I thoroughly enjoyed the TNT WILL . Looked forward to each of the 8 episodes. Entertaining and inspiring. Loaded with lessons on developing moral courage, which in the age of trump and revenge is sorely lacking. Terribly disappointed the second season has been canceled.
My husband and I are so disappointed. This was one of the best series on TV. Shakespeare’s life
was so interesting and in season one, it just
got all of us Shakespeare lovers wanting more.
We hope since TNT is not renewing Will, that
another network will pick it up. People that did not watch season one are bound to hear from others how wonderful it was and how good the acting is that it should peak more interest.
Someone please bring back Will. This is really
sad news that it is not being renewed. ☹️☹️
Loved this series. Had to search to mKe sure we recorded it each week. Sure hope it will continue.
Is Alice going to France to become a nun?
To America!
I love this show. The cast, the costumes and set, the writing the music. I think it’s time slot hurt it from gaining viewers and it’s a stretch for TNT, but a completely new genre in TV that’s not PBS. Please renew it.
I Loooooooove Will! It’s truly one of the best shows in history. Please bring it back. It had adventure, lust, love, &laughter. What more could you want.
