The Big Bang Theory has been a wildly successful CBS TV series. Will its prequel — the Young Sheldon TV show — continue that legacy? Jim Parsons is the only cast member set to cross over, and that’s in a voice capacity. Can the Tiffany Network attract and keep The Big Bang Theory audience? Will Young Sheldon be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.
A single-camera comedy, Young Sheldon stars Iain Armitage, Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Annie Potts, Montana Jordan, and Raegan Revord, with Jim Parsons narrating. The CBS sitcom unfolds in 1989 and centers on Sheldon Cooper (Armitage), when he was just a nine-year-old boy. Surviving childhood in an East Texas outpost — one dedicated to all things faith and football — will be no mean feat for this unique genius and his otherwise ordinary family.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/11 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Young Sheldon TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for second season on CBS?
1/6/18 update: CBS has renewed Young Sheldon for a second season for the 2018-19 season. Details here.
The new Young Sheldon as he’s gotten older completely stinks I watch it all the time I watch all the reruns but it’s got to go the show has stop. It’s no longer enjoyable.
I find Young Sheldon very funny and entertaining. I don’t know why anyone would say it sucks when it don’t. I’m extremely happy that was renewed for a second season. Keep ’em coming Shely
I believe this show is extremely funny! All those who don’t care for it are probably simple minded and would rather watch mindless reality tv instead of the clever writing that this program provides. Please don’t cancel it as it’s one show that we and a number of our friends look forward to watching every week!!
Every time Chuck starts working on a new show all his old shows writing suffers,as seen on Two and Half Men,and now Big Bang Theory. Keep working on Disjointed because this kid sucks and so does Chucks kiddie show Young Sheldon. Chuck should stick to what he knows. Getting loaded, getting sober, and handing the kids off to their mother, while he gets laid.
Young Sheldon could be great, but, the kid seems to be controlling the parents, the family and everybody at school. It is not funny. Too bad, because all the actors are excellent.
Young Sheldon is one of the freshest new shows, in a long time. We just love the way Jim Parsons narrates for this, instead of a audience or laugh track. Shows all the things that could and often did happen in those years. It’s ALL humour, nothing disgusting said in it. Reminds us of how things often were when we grew up. Nice much slower pace. Keep it going, we just love it. Haven’t heard anyone knock it. Keep up the good work!
Don’t cancel this old fashioned fun show.
