Despite a 30% drop in the ratings, CBS chose to renew its Zoo TV show for a third season, rather than cancel it. Can the network turn things around and regain some audience, or will this summer TV series go the way of the Dodo? Will Zoo be cancelled or renewed for season four? Stay tuned.
A CBS drama thriller based on the James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge novel, Zoo, stars James Wolk as zoologist Jackson Oz. The cast also includes Kristen Connolly, Nonso Anozie, Billy Burke, Alyssa Diaz, Josh Salatin, and Gracie Dzienny. After noticing animals behaving strangely during the African safaris he conducts, Oz and his team work to figure out the reason behind it. Meanwhile, the animals assaults become more cunning, coordinated, and ferocious.
Season three of Zoo opens in the year 2027. Thanks to the sterility issue, the human population is still diminishing. Meanwhile, hybrids pose a new threat. This relentless force of lab-created creatures is determined to wipe humans off the face of the earth. Although the team members have grown alienated from each other over the last ten years, Jackson, Jamie (Connolly), Abraham (Anozie), Dariela (Diaz), and Logan (Salatin) have to get past their differences and reunite when they learn that Mitch (Burke) is alive. They must stop the hybrids and their enigmatic creator – someone with a connection to their past.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
9/22 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The second season of Zoo averaged a 0.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.453 million total viewers.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the Zoo TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a fourth season on CBS?
10/23/17 update: CBS has cancelled the Zoo TV show after three seasons. Details here.
I love the show, I want a 4th season and a 5th if that is possible it needs to be renewed. I hope that I will see it next year.
Family of 3, its our together time and we love the show. Like to progression , totally different from anything else right now. Actors are great. Please bring back for more seasons.
I was a little disappointed with season 3’s story but I believe the show should still have a season 4. The drop was because of poor story. I do like the basis of the show though and how it all started. Give the show another chance to redeem itself, that is my opinion on the matter. If the next season is just as bad or worse, then axe it.
Those of us that remember how great certain scenes were in season one feel like everything that came afterwards was a mockery of what could have been a great show. Everything afterwards felt like a rushed cheat but worse still, picking up the show ten years later made most of us regret we waited all season to watch Season Three! How did this show get this bad? My only explanation: an AI program wrote this show! Surely no one with a pulse could produce something without heart or purpose? I swear there was literally no reason to care about anything… Read more »

Unfortunately the show has gone way over board. It kills me to say, but I really don’t want a Season 4. It should have ended after 2 seasons – perfect ending.
Renew for Season 4!
Love the show! Hope it comes back for season 4!
I believe ZOO should move to Saturday nights at 10pm. A great time slot. You’ll see more people watching late night scary.
