Black Box: TV Show Cancelled by ABC; No Season Two

Black Box TV show on ABC canceledAs expected, ABC has cancelled their summer series Black Box after one season of 13 episodes, reports EW.

Black Box revolves around a beautiful and brilliant neuroscientist (Kelly Reilly) who’s hiding the fact that she’s bipolar. The rest of the cast includes Ditch Davey, David Ajala, Terry Kinney, Ali Wong, David Chisum, Laura Fraser, Siobhan Williams, and Vanessa Redgrave.

The series debuted in late April to a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.87 million viewers. It was a mediocre start for the dramatic series and the numbers got progressively worse as new episodes were released. Towards the end of its 13 episode run, Black Box dropped to a 0.6 demo rating with 3.72 million.

The last two episodes aired on July 24th, leaving the main character’s professional fate up in the air.

What do you think? Did you like the Black Box series? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season? Why do you think the show didn’t catch on?

Maybe if we all complain to ABC they’d reconsider? Never hurts!

What a pity! It`s a shame people don`t recognize valuable insight, when they see it. This movie had a lot to teach us, I`m so desappointed people feel like they don`t need that knowledge. In this movie the characters are complex, full of everything, exactely as in real life. It`s not bringing rating…. . Hm. Ok. What`s bringing good rating? Crime? Blood? Violence? All kinds of stories about the end of the world ( one could imagine that we really want that…we want that and are so fascinated with that one that we simply can`t help imagining all sorts of…”end of the world”s…). It`s such a pity to see that enjoyable movies ( intellectual and easy to understand, at the same time) like `Black Box` do not do “good demo rating”! Stop letting those brains go neat and glossy, put them to work, give them some juicy movies, like this one… . That`s what we say here, in our family. ( We live in Europe, Romania).

I loved this show. I wish that Hulu would pick up some of these shows that get cancelled.

Bring it back…It was fantastic. It has intellectual and emotional appeal and keeps one current on the latest science about humans’ most valuable asset…the brain.

Why not get rid of one of those stupid reality shows instead….no brain involvement there.

Yes, I agree. I think it was a pretty accurate portrayal of the ups and downs of bi-polar disorder. It was honest and showed how someone can be both brilliant and troubled at the same time. I loved the show and was disappointed it was cancelled. There is not much on TV that interest me–that was one of the only shows I watched on a regular basis. It should be brought back.

I just loved show. It helped people have a better understanding about mental health. Please reconsider and put it back on. It was refreshingly different from all the cop shows and reality shows.
