ITV has cancelled its DCI Banks TV show after five seasons (series). Radio Times reports the fifth series will be the final outing. The program ends with the two-part finale, “Undertow, which will serve as the DCI Banks TV series finale.
Stephen Tompkins starred in the title role of ITV’s adaption Peter Robinson’s Detective Chief Inspector Alan Banks book series. Andrea Lowe, Caroline Catz, Jack Deam, and Samuel Anderson also starred.

The broadcaster said that the fifth series, which aired earlier this year, will be its last.
“After five series, ITV has taken the decision not to recommission DCI Banks. We’re grateful to the production team at Left Bank Pictures for creating the world of DCI Banks and the actors Stephen Tompkinson, Andrea Lowe and Caroline Catz for the commitment and dedication they’ve shown to their roles.”

Well the only reason that makes sense of cancelling it is the death of DS Annie Cabot, without their chemistry it wouldn’t have been that interesting, remember the season where Annie went on pregnancy leave, that season wasn’t that good. And with DI Helen becoming a DCI they might have to split up the team to give her on team to lead as there can’t be 2 DCIs/leaders, and adjusting new characters that too replacing the popular characters like Helen and Annie couldn’t have been a good decision.
