The doctor is “in” — and he’s staying there. ABC has picked up nine additional installments of their new Dr. Ken comedy series. This brings the first season tally to 22 episodes.
Based on the experiences of creator and star Ken Jeong, Dr. Ken follows the life of a brilliant but unorthodox physician who occasionally leaves his bedside manner at home. The cast also includes Suzy Nakamura, Tisha Campbell-Martin, Dave Foley, Kate Simses, Jonathan Slavin, Albert Tsai, and Krista Marie Yu.
The series debuted on October 2nd to a healthy 1.48 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.71 million viewers. The ratings dropped a reasonable amount in week two and held stead in week three — a very positive sign.
In the past, the network has had a problem finding a compatible companion series for Friday night sitcom Last Man Standing. In previous years, Malibu Country, Cristela, and The Neighbors were all given full season orders but were also cancelled.
It remains to be seen if Dr. Ken will survive to see a second season but it seems to be off to a positive start.
What do you think? Do you like the Dr. Ken sitcom on ABC? Are you glad that the network has picked up a full season? Would you like to see it cancelled or renewed for a second season?
I love Dr. Ken series. The characters are diverse and everyone is hilarious. I was looking forward to Friday nights to watch it and noticed it hasn’t been aired the past 2. Guess it’s finished for the season. Hopefully it returns in the fall.
REALLY looking forward for a second season!!
This show is very funny, it’s the only show our family can watch on network tv.
I love Dr Ken. I love the characters but especially Dr Ken himself. This is a funny show. I hope this show stays on.
Excellent show to watch, especially on Friday nite. Now we need 2 more comedy shows to back them up for a great family night of TGIF. …Dave
I loved the show it was very funny. Please keep it going
Please keep this show on after Last Man Standing
Please keep Dr. Ken for a second season. It continues to be a very funny Friday night sitcom.
The show is great! Dr.Ken makes me laugh 🙂
I expected more from Ken Jeong based on his previous work, but this show really dropped the ball. The acting is sub-par, the writing is not good, the timing is off, and Ken seems to feel the need to over-emphasize all of his lines/scenes to compensate. I know shows need time to find themselves, and I gave this show all season to do so, but it never did. I think it’s time to cut the cord on this one.
The worst show ever! Please take it off the air. It is not funny. Kill the show. Ken is not funny.
The show is silly. I don’t know why he ordered more episodes; I could barely make it through three of them. Not a great show. I don’t see it lasting long.
Ken Jong is amazing. He is the show. Problem is the other actors…they are so unsuportive…Writer need improvement too.
Not very happy about the news. I predict that Dr. Ken should get one season tops.
