Eastwick: ABC TV Show Cancelled, No Season Two

Eastwick canceledIt looks like the magic is over for the three ladies of Eastwick. ABC network has decided against ordering any additional episodes of the supernatural series, effectively cancelling it.

Eastwick revolves around three women (Rebecca Romijn, Lindsay Price, and Jaime Ray Newman) who meet at a wishing fountain and become friends. Soonafter, mysterious Darryl Van Horne (Paul Gross) moves to town and unleashes powers within the ladies. The cast also includes Ashley Benson, Johann Urb, Jon Bernthal, Sara Rue, and Veronica Cartwright.

The show got off to a slow start on September 23rd with a 3.0 rating in the 18-49 demo and 8.5 million total viewers. The second installment fell to a 2.3 in the demo and 6.57 million viewers. The third week fell again to a 1.8 and 5.14 million.

In the weeks that followed, the ratings didn’t get any better and more frequently got worse. Last week, Eastwick hit an all-time low of 1.5 in the demo and 4.4 million.

ABC has opted to pull the show from the schedule for two weeks. This Wednesday, it’s replaced by the Country Music Awards. Next week, it’s being bumped for an interview special called In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts: Janet Jackson. Though Eastwick is scheduled to return on Thanksgiving eve with a new episode, the supernatural drama won’t be around for long after that.

TV show supportABC has decided not to order any additional episodes of Eastwick, effectively cancelling the series after 13 episodes. It’s unknown if the last episode will wrap up the ongoing storylines. For now, ABC plans to air all six remaining installments but, if the ratings keep declining, the network could easily pull the series before that happens.

What do you think? Why did Eastwick fail? Do you think ABC will really air all of the 13 episodes?

My dear you are quite misinformed. During this economic downturn the broadcasting companies do not have the money they one had to monitor other forums etc. They do their own sampling and polls.
If you want your message heard do send it to Mr. McPherson at ABC’s programing department. At least they will be read.
After reading many of the comments left here it is more than obvious why ABC would cancel Eastwick and put in its place a comedy type program focused to the 15 – 30 year old crowd.
Figure it out. It just too obvious.

Bravo Stephanie and well said. As for you Robert, I’m a firm believer of respecting ones views and opinions but you my dear fellow obviously dont apply to this same rule. If you were trying to be helpful with your advice then thank you for the information but your message got lost in the rude way you delivered it. If this is not the case then I apologize but I feel your comment to Stephanie was woefully ignorant and to me a little too arrogant for your own good. I dont want to start a flame war, thats not why I am here. I’m here and others are here to commisserate with each other over a much loved short lived series. My question is, why are you here?

Side Note: I have tried other avenues, snail mail, email to other networks and leaving the link to this board here to show them how much Eastwick is loved and missed.

I really loved this show. I looked forward to Wednesday and watching TV with my husband. First Cougar Town and to follow Eastwick. We absolutely enjoyed this show and am sad to see it go. There are just too many reality shows on these days. I opt for the more traditional sitcoms. I am sad to see it go!

Unbelieveable that they cancelled Eastwick and left Ugly Betty on the air. They should rethink this decision .

I totally agree. I am so over Ugly Betty and its a lost cause honestly. Ugly Betty is not the show it used to be. I am a fan of the show Eastwick and am sad that it is going off the air. I understand ratings are everything for a tv station and I really hate when I like a show and it goes away. Just stinks!

I subscribe to a web site called ‘The Futon Critic,’ & it broke news tonight about developing shows, including an ABC drama called ‘Happy Town’ to premiere April 28 at 10 pm, ‘about a small town still haunted by a number of unsolved kidnappings’ http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news.aspx?id=8513. It actually sounds like a show I will watch, though I still want more ‘Eastwick’. At least it’s not another reality show.

The TV biz is indeed a long shallow money trench and it’s filled with idiots. Eastwick looked like an expensive show to produce and it’s obvious the gutless fools at ABC didn’t know how to promote it. Maybe TNT will pick it up. Worked for Southland. Go Cable!

I’d like to say that I’m 16 and really enjoyed watching this show. I always wanted to watch the new episode right away because it sounded so interesting. And I really liked the show a lot. Everyone in my family did, we always watched it.

Really, the only time I watched this show was online. I don’t even know when it came on on regular tv. It should stay but no one even knows about the show.

REVENGE! The Ugly Betty show will be finished in two weeks. It is being removed from ABC’s line up. The new take on the show garnered so few viewers it has been taken off.
Now is the time to bombard ABC Programing to return EASTWICK.

I loved the show and I am sorry it went off the air. I also like the show “Invasion” that they just dropped a few years ago.

I absolutely loved this show! Why is it that whenever a show is a little bit different than the norm it gets pulled with no warning? I loved Men in Trees as well. Eastwick was funny, scary, and romantic and had excellent actors that made you waiting for the next episode to air. I am sad and disappointed that the quality tv shows seem to be the ones that get pulled before they have a chance to develop an audience.

I agree that ABC should reconsider canceling Eastwick, its more than likely receive such low ratings because of its intermittent scheduling. You can expect on a new show to your line up to build and audience when its on one week, and off the next, then back on the next week. Point in case look at what happened when Fox initially canceled Family Guy back in 1999, because of this same reason. Consistency is what builds and audience, Eastwick was a interesting show and should seriously be reconsidered as part of ABC’s newest lineup. I don’t think it was even given a fair shot, to build and audience, you can’t expect the talk around the water cooler to be about a show that may or may not be shown this week or the next. Its really common sense. Haste makes Waste!!!!

I am a busy person, and DVR all of my shows, I was VERY upset, when I came to discover this news of ABC, cancelling EASTWICK !!! I am a HUGE fan, and did not appreciate to follow the series, enjoy looking forward to the next episode, then have it ripped off of television. No, it’s not the end of the world, but I feel that the series had opportunity, and was going somewhere !! I do hope ABS reconsiders their decision !!
