General Hospital: To Be Replaced By a Reality Show Version?

general hospitalAccording to the NY Post, ABC is considering a reality show version of General Hospital. The show would revolve around the personal and professional lives of doctors and nurses who work at a Los Angeles hospital (rather than fictional Port Charles, New York).

The new show is apparently in the very early stages of development and filming has quietly begun at UCLA Medical Center. ABC is said to be considering this new “General Hospital” show for the daytime schedule.

The crazy thing is that 50-year-old General Hospital could end up being replaced by a reality show version of itself. Though the soap opera has been performing well this season — reportedly rising 18% in total viewers year-to-year (2.37 to 2.81 million) — the network is still on the look out for ways to expand their audience and cut costs.

What do you think? Is ABC considering replacing General Hospital with a reality show version? Would you check it out?

There are a few shows I watch on ABC, but if they cancel General Hospital….I will NEVER watch ABC again.

I can’t believe ABC is stupid enough to consider a reality show replacing GH. Especially after the dismal failure of OLTL’s replacement! ABC will lose viewers if they go through with this idiocy! Who is in charge at ABC daytime….. Donald DUCK????

NO I WOULD NOT WATCH. HOWEVER, General needs to get it togther and quickly. THE Storylines have alot to be desired how many characters are we going to bring back. STUPID. I understand, LOVED, Jason cant be replaced, LEFT IT OPEN FOR HIS RETURN but, I didnt think Carly could either. Why not a happy storyline finally isnt there enough sadness in the world. Which leaves me to wonder what’s next, Our Maxie’s heart will finally beat one last time giving birth for Lulu and Dante. PROVE ME WRONG GH STOP THE DISAPPOINTMENTS AND PREDICTABILITY!!!

Since OLTL and AMC were taken from us ABC is lucky to have any viewers at all!!! If the powers that be think this would be a good idea to replace GH with a reality form of itself then they are complete idiots!!! The only reason i turn ABC on is to watch GH, if it goes i go…and i know would NOT be alone!!!!!!

Just when I think ABC has learned from cancelling OLTL & AMC here comes more stupidity on their part. Leave GH alone and bring back the other two shows..Clearly the fans have spoken by not watching the replacement shows and finding other networks for primetime. If they do this, I will not watch. And I know I won’t be the only one…

Shows about real doctors and real situations do not do very well, its a fact.

ABC used to be my favorite network, back in the day. Sadly, their decision to remove OLTL and AMC despite the fans objections, caused me to remove myself from their network. With the exception of GH, I no longer watch ABC. I have given up watching shows that I do like, to show my support of what they have taken from me. Their lack of concern is insulting. I know that I am only one voice, but I am standing by my decision.

You guys are stupid, you give us crap in the evenings, trash that I would never want for my Grandchildren to watch,Daytime TV is full of sex and violence,as is a lot of night-timt TV,whatever happened to good clean TV for the whole family,I generally don’t even turn my TV on until time for GH,if it is on,it’s on FOX news

I do not think this will happen but I was wrong before too. I can hardly imagine if ABC thinks that this version of “General Hospital” will get any viewers if it replaces our beloved GH. If this happens ABC is permanently deleted from my cable if not even off my computer.

i think its a STUPID idea! why not KEEP the show that doin good already, instaed of canceling it and loosing all those viewers… cause once GH is gone, im off daytime ABC for good! there is nothing worth watching on daytime ABC nor will there b after GH goes.just another crazy idea by the brain-dead.

Liz December 2, 2012 at 11:02 am

Stupid idea, IMHO. GH has improved so much this past year! It’s fun to watch and the characters have become as interesting as colorful relatives in everyone’s home. There’s too much reality TV on right now along with lame talk shows. Keep GH and get rid of the idiots in charge of things at ABC. If GH is replaced by a reality show, I guarantee very few will watch the new show. Does “The Revulsion” ring a bell?

Paula Campbell December 2, 2012 at 10:59 am

we have too many reality shows on the air as it is, we do not need another one!
Please keep the “original “General Hospital going !!!

Linda December 2, 2012 at 10:55 am

HELL no not,if you paid me. Other than General Hospital, I don’t even watch ABC at all. And I mean nothing. I’d rather watch USA or TBS and watch re runs of NCIS or Law & Order that the hack job you have turned your Network into. What you should do is fire everyone and re-evaluate your goals.

Suzanne Melton December 2, 2012 at 10:40 am

Crazy Crazy idea. No way would I watch and I am sure it would be a big flop!!!!! I don’t know who is running things at ABC but they evidently have rocks in their head. We (the viewers) do not want any more reality shows, talk shows or self help shows. We watch TV to escape reality. If ABC does something as stupid as cancelling GH and replacing it with a reality show, the ABC will definitly lose my viewership. We want our daytime dramas!!!!!!!!!!
